I burnt a DVD (image files) from my hard drive but the DVD won't play- the drive does not see it. I can play the file fine off the hard drive, though. Any suggestions as to what is wrong?

Data or video dvd?

Did you specifically burn it as a Video-DVD (If it's a movie?) or did you just drag and drop the vob files?

If your DVD drive does not recognize it at all then it is a bad burn, assuming your DVD drive is in good shape.

It is a Video DVD which I have a copy of. Looking at it, I see there are 2 files on it - Video TS and Audio TS. Using DVD Shrink, I made a backup which converted the files to an image file (ISO?). Then using Nero Essentials, I used "Disc Image - Record an disc from an image previously burned onto the hard drive" to burn a new DVD.
I have used this method successfullly in the past. But this time it does not work. The DVD cannot be read. Although I can play the files from the hard drive.
BTW, I have just done it successfully again - burning other image files to a DVD.

I think I have found the problem... I was trying to make a backup using DVDShrink and I get a data error (cyclic redundancy check) at 92% converted. I assume this could be messing with the burn to DVD. What can I do, if anything?

As long as you have removed any copy protection (a la DVD Decrypter) you should be ok. Run it though dvd shrink again.

make sure you have overburn disabled and that the size of the shrink is small enough to fit properly. Also make sure to close the disc.

This may sound odd, but sometimes simply moving the content to a different folder on the computer stops this from happening. I don't know why... ;) Voodoo!

Seems like a bad burn IMO.
Had plenty saved on a 4.7GB's DVD games & maps [Trackmania/WoflET/Trickster/CSS/DODS maps] re-format PC only to find that the DVD has a redundency error! :( YAY! now I have to Download 4.7GB's again on my 64k!!
