Vista vs XP, Preference?

If Vista and XP worked perfectly, which would you choose?

I'm one of the lucky few that installed vista (February) and didn't have any problems with it during the use, yes minor stuff did creep up, but I was able to fix them. Now that I update it constantly, I have found no errors or problems since about april.

The main issues I have identified that people hate about vista is that it is unstable from installation. Mine started to run much better from the first update back then, and now isn't giving any problems, thats why I say "one of the lucky few" :)

Most people are comparing Vista (without service pack) with XP with service pack 2, which might not be fair in my opinion. I still remember how much problems XP gave when it first came out, no-one wanted to use it and stayed with win98. So I understand that Vista is crap when you first install it, but give it a break :p

I just want to hear what people's opinions are about vista if it was on the same par as XP, meaning it had virtually "no problems" like XP has "no problems". I'm running all my previous programs that ran on XP, as well as my games. I do see a few FPS loss in games, but that is nVidia's drivers that still need to be tweaked to be perfectly stable on Vista. Personally I got bored with XP, I know exactly what to do and how to fix errors that I encountered, and if I didn't have any Series or Movies to watch didn't even want to boot my pc :). With vista, the graphics as well as how the interface changed keeps my eyes busy while I work :D
 
Well, excitement (against boredom) is its own curse. Im happy with XP cause I already have it. I actually run it in classic mode so why bother with the Vista eye candy if I wont use it.

Now what I'm really looking forward to is Windows Home Server...
 
Well regardless whether its stable or unstable which is fixable with service packs, its still very resource hungry so unless i have a huge cash-flow to by a semi decent, yet still potent machine, i dont see myself going to vista anytime now or in the near future... if with the monster of a pc, can you imagine how much resources you save with staying on xp.

Some of us don't have the knowledge to run linux and the money to run mac os :(. Would like to learn linux but cant seem to find the time to read the online guides/how-to's etc
 
I like vista but gaming on it isn't an option yet. NVidia's drivers need a lot of work. In general Vista is fast, sleek, smooth and looks beautiful.
I think the people experiencing instability issues just havent: Updated Vista, updated video AND chipset drivers and updated software running in the background (e.g. AV, AS)

My new system runs beautifully in vista (C2D E6550 + 8800GTS + 2GB DDR2 800) which is a tad expensive but I remember stressing about my Pentium 2 300MHz when XP was to be released. You'll have to upgrade one day :P
XP also had a lot of bugs in the beginning and I feel that Vista's bugs are being fixed a lot quicker than XP's.

Al tough in general Vista doesn't have things that I can't live without. I'm not saying it doesn't have good features I'm just saying it's not revolutionary. I run XP all the time...waiting for decent video drivers to be released (I can't play Bioshock in vista since I can't change the resolution of the game without it crashing :p ) and will decide whether I'll move over to vista completely or not once the drivers exist.

Yea, if you don't see the interface anyway then you probably won't ever use vista. But it's not just the looks, it's the new features as well as the small things that were changed that I like in vista, for example, when you rename a file in vista, you dubbleclick, the name and not the extension is selected, making renaming files faster. For me thats a small nicety because I rename files often.

@ic , if you are referring that you won't actually prefer either because you like linux, I won't EVER use linux without have windows as default boot, I like my windows games that you ;)

I am running vista completely, but I have XP on another harddrive just in case i do something wrong that kills vista. I "tri-boot", I have Vista, XP and linux on my pc.

Different :)

OSX is basically in my opinion, Linux's stability with Windows' looks and with very few or no gaming support. OSX is mostly used for animation, graphics, render companies. Thus having good looks (keeping workers motivated) , stability (for production), and prevents employees from playing games during work hours :D

Please don't mistake this poll for what you CAN run, I know a lot of users can't run vista, because they have onboard graphics cards etc. I want to know what you would like to run.
 
I am running vista for 3 months i think,F#^$^& this os.THats why i play my games in xp,everything else i do in vista.LIke sunbird said,i to run my xp in classic,No frills just plain grey...But vista i cannot do that cause it simply looks K@k without the visual treatment.So i spend about 500 mb from the service.exe shop in vista.
WHen i skip movies in the playlist(mediaplayer) fast vista crashes to blue screen and always i see at the bottom something about the cmedia card.It frustrates me but its ok.Also my vista is fully up to date in terms of security/and drivers.I can play games in vista now but i prefer not to.It lags.

For this time only iam gonna say this once,I love vista and the challengers of messing with vista,i never get bored.Its a operating thing.

If dual boot was never invented i would stay with xp,but now i have the best of both worlds.Yo got to love ms for giving us crap os's over the years.
Dont talk about linux,I get lost with that.(newbie)
 
when vista came out i used it on my older machine and was plagued by many problems, a lot which had to do with running older software, especially flash 8. Since the new creative suite and a whole new computer i have been running Vista.

Initially I was running XP and Vista on my new machine, but i have since removed XP as everything is running like a well oiled machine. Includes the new Adobe CS3 and latest games.

Vista is plauged with video issues (divx, xvid etc) but i found an awesome vista codec pack that recitifies those problems.

One thing annoys me in Vista and that is the copy/paste bug which should be fixed with the first SP.

XP is still lighter on foot, but lets face it Vista is only going to get more popular...

For me that is a major PITA. If I want to rename a file from old.htaccess -> .htaccess, Vista insists the file needs an extension or it may not work properly or become unstable :eek: It manages the existing .htaccess files just fine, but don't try to rename one.
