McLaren fined $100,000,000

Ridiculous that the drivers aren't docked point as well. Either the whole team benefited from the spying or no one did.
 
If I was Hamilton I would not want to "win" in such a tainted manner now.
 
Drivers were offered immunity if they came forward with evidence, so i think MAYBE they did. But will mclaren bother to back there drivers for the rest of the season?

You bet your @ss they will, if not just to hammer the point home that they were so superior the whole season. Next season should be fun.

$100 million is about less than 5% of Daimler Chrysler profit, so I think it is a fair fine.

Their 2007 car was completely built long before the so called spy saga began. If anything, it may have had an impact on their 2008 car but not the current car. The ruling is a load of hogwash. It's another instance of Ferarri pulling strings behind the scene. I would not be supprised if this whole thing was a plant. The evidence used to "convict" Mclaren was some emails that were sent to the drivers. Over 100 people including the drivers gave evidence that they had not used any information.

What the FIA is basically saying is that because one of the employes of Mclaren was naughty, that the whole team should be sanctioned for it. F1 has been heading down hill for a while now. After this, I think they are going to fall a lot further.
 
There is a solution, and a simple one...

All F1 technology to be disbanded immediately, and teams have to build (and push) carts made out of shopping trolley wheels, a tomato box, string and some planks... :D

Reports say they have emails from Alonso and one of the head engineers (can't remember his name now) that implicate them directly. IMO they didn't dock Alonso because then it would have completely ruined the season ... already knocked Mclaren out of constructors but if also banned Alonso from championship then there would be no reason for people to keep watching. Bet Hamilton is a bit peeved that he still has Alonso breathing down his back :D
 
I notice nobody is mentioning the 700+ pages of technical documentation that was found at one of the engineers homes...

I think the punishment might be a bit harsh, cos there is still a bit of a cloud as to whether they actually used any of the data but yeah.

Perhaps not as a team, but I doubt that the engineer caught with it used it to roll joints.

Guilt by association is OK? I think not.

This smacks very much of the French system of being guilty until you prove your innocence. But wait, where is the FIA?
 
Well no, guilt by association is def not ok.

I dunno, I'm in a bit of two minds about the whole thing. F1 has become incredibly commercial and pieces of IP are worth millions and millions of dollars now. Don't really like either team tbh, I'm a williams supporter (even thought they're pretty rubbish) :)
 
Funny how quick and rapid action is taken against MClaren, but Toyota Ferrari clones escape sanction....

For the record I supported Minardi....
