Dell 2407WFP-HC - 24" LCD - Good buy??

Not sure if this should go under off topic or here. Althought it is a HDTV.

Well I need to get myself a new monitor. My 19" CRT is starting to die on me. So I was thinking 24" widescreen LCD - the Dell 2407WFP-HC.

Anyone got this LCD or know of someone who has? Or know if there are any bad things about it or anything like that?

The only reason I've decided on the Dell is that it got a very good review in the June issue of PC Format. Plus alot of the online review places I've read also say it's an excellent LCD.

Another reason is for the Component connections. I can connect my Wii to if I wanna play (maybe I can actually complete some games before I get new ones).

But it's mainly going to be used as a computer monitor, as my 19" is slowly dying (getting blurring in the middle).

The only major downside to this LCD is that the component only supports a max up to 1080i, not p. But I'm not really bothered with that. As if I really want to watch HD content on a small 24" LCD. Would rather go watch my HD content on my 60"er.

Unless anyone has any other suggestions? Let me know if this is a good buy or not?

P.S. - Can one get old CRT monitors repaired? Mine is going blurry in the middle section of the screen and it makes text really hard to read sometimes. I know this is really frakking up my eyes. That's why the new LCD. But if I can get it repaired and in working order again, then I can maybe sell it or give it to a family member. It's a ViewSonic G90f monitor.

Quite a few computer shops offer CRT repair services.

My Viewsonic P90f died on me not to long ago, i replace it with Samsung 21' w.
Dude it's freaking fantastic!!! Now that i think about it i wish my CRT died ages ago.
My Widescreen only support 1680 x 1050 and it awsome!!!
What will that monitor set you back though?

I wanted to get a new LCD along with a new system, but I need the screen now, so the system will come next year. At least the LCD will last.

That screen should not cost more than R 7 000. R 7500 max. Excellent screen though, the guys in our planning department use them.

Unverse Direct has them for about R6K....but those are the old versions - 2407WFP....not the new 2407WFP-HC models.

Maybe I should just go for the older models. But I would need to make sure that the hardware revision is A04, as I believe that the earlier revisions had problems.

P.S. - anyone know any place in PTA that repairs CRT monitors?

BUMMER!! So I've just been doing some research on this monitor and found this thread on the Official Dell forums:-

2407WFP-HC Ghosting/Shadowing issues...

Apparently this happens on all "-HC" monitors. This is indeed very sad! So now I'm not sure what to do. From the video it doesn't look that bad. But still, you're paying alot of money for an LCD monitor which doesn't work 100%.

I've spoken to Dell SA and they not even aware of the problem with these monitors. So I had to send them the link so they can take a read through. Dell US is working on the problem. I've asked Dell SA that if I buy this monitor now and Dell comes out with a fix for it, can I send my faulty monitor back and get the new fixed revision, and they said that it shouldn't be a problem. It's covered by the 3-year warranty. This is apparently what will happen in the US, once Dell US has sorted out the issue.

So do I buy this monitor and when the fixed version comes out get it swapped out? Or do I wait to buy this monitor until they've sorted this issue out? Or do I get a completely different monitor all together?

I really would like a 24" LCD monitor that supports a high res such as 1920x1200, support component connections (Wii), DVI (computer) and VGA (XBox 360).

I have the 2405fpw I think it is. It is excellent although I don't think Dell offers this model I think it might now be the 2407fpw. Mine does 1900x1200 (actually that's what I am using as my desktop res).
