IMO, people should only have one citizenship. If you are South African, then you should be fully committed to SA, not have a Lesotho, or European passport.

Just upsets me thats all, anyone here in such a situation? And could you enlighten us why you choose to keep both passports?
 
In the bad days, South African passports were not welcome to travel on. Besides, the Dual nationality thing came about to get NON-South Africans in to the Army.

If you lived in SA for 5 years, then you automatically qualified as a citizen - and hence forth, Drafted in to the Army to do your 2 years service. Why should a person loose their original citizenship just for that?

Thats one of the reasons.
 
I only have a European passport. I have no need for any other passport. I have permanent residence in South Africa and a US green card. Quite happy with those.

Those are naturalised citizines, I'm talking about SA born people that qualify for some other countries becuase some grandmother of theirs was a citizen there, or their parents are from there.
 
I have dual citizenship. Suits me fine. Not really interested in how anybody feels about it.
 
sour grapes ? o for the record i only have a SA passport, could get British if I was bothered but I am not, wife has SA and British why should she relinquish one of them ? :confused::confused:

Do I have sour grapes? Sort of, there is a thread in the NCA section regarding if white people should classify themselves as africans, and the overwhelming response was yes. So why do you need the foreign passports if you are african? Does it not sound weird to you?

PS, I'm not saying all white people hold dual citizenship, my beef is with those that do. They must pick already, and I would have no issue with the seeing themselves as african.

its heritage? ... Why close doors to exciting opportunities? I have 2 passports and I have used them both quite often.

Many countries dont allow dual citizenship, but if I am forced, I will drop SA passport like a hot cookie... it has got me in to more trouble than it was worth... but it has also got me out of some scenarios.

I am not on this planet to serve any country... so being loyal to one country that I had no choice being born in seems a bit eeky to me.

Keeping 2 passports is about opportunities, not loyalties.

There is your answer right there sox63. If people want to have dual citizenship then I don't see why you're so uptight about it. People have no obligation to stay in one country.

I fall into that category and I would not relinquish my passport. Why would I, thats just plain stupid.

Always keep options open, I say.
 
I have my German Passport for travel reasons only. No need to get a Visa for most destinations.
Got the passport after living in Germany for some years while studying. Still travel to Germany regularly and the passport make it so much easier. If SA can sort out all the crap regarding the SA passport I will drop my German one.

All South African are Settlers. None of us are native to this area.
 
I have SA and should be able to get a British but I was turned down at 16 because I'm adopted.

My dad comes from Yorkshire and him and my mom adopted me at 6 weeks.

All because of a law passed around the time of the 2nd World War.
