Hi Guys

I'm looking for a place that does this field of traing from start to finish. Problem is I can't find any acredited place in SA. Or am I just not looking hard enough ?

I asked a similar question a while back.

Quite pricey but I think they are the best.
 
VZAP is the place you are looking for. Might want to look at Sun Certification also

Remember, JAVA is Huge. I am in the JAVA Web Dev Space, what is it that you would like to do? If you know programming you basic Java syntax will take you a week, maybe 2. The true beauty of java is that its Object Oriontated. If you understand OO you are set.

Java careers include:
Thick Client SWING/AWT
Web Development
J2EE Service developmemt Web Service / EJB

Even web development there are many frame works inclding
Servlet
Struts
Faces
Tapestry
Ruby

Learning to program is easy... its gaining valuable/usable experience that takes time.

Java is probably the best programming language I have ever experienced, second maybe only to assembly.

Great choice!
 
The language you choose shouldn't be the big deal. Any programmer worth his salt should be able to program in multiple languages depending on the requirement. A programming language is just a tool, it depends how you use it with regards to the requirements of the solution.

Just because you can draw doesn't make you architect.

That is true... but the end result should dictate the programming language.. Carving a statue with a Teaspoon isnt the best idea (Spoon = Visual Basic)

If the Engineer has a concept of OO, then its no train-smash. Personally, I drink Java - and choose not to code in it

I like java.. the code is always sooo much cleaner :) compared to c etc.. but then i started with c++ and then moved to java so for me stuff like vb and c annoys me to no end
 
Do any of you know which companies (in Cape Town) offer Sun Certified Java Programming courses and then secondly, where you can do the exam for a Sun Certified Java Programmer (SCJP)?

Do these exams actually improve your chance of getting a job? Because I might do them during a holiday or something for a little extra behind my name...

It's not going to hurt your chances. It probably doesn't help much if you're applying for a senior developer position where the focus shifts more towards your experience than qualifications.
