what about the up channel - 384*5=1920?

I'm guessing that is what happens....
Would be great if it is.

What's so new about ADSL bonding?
Or am I missing something here?

Channel bonding is not new at all. Think ISDN with multiple B channels bonded together to achieve 128kbps.
Here is a link referring to MLPPP (Multi-link PPP) for ISDN lines from 1999: http://www.linuxjournal.com/article/3149
I guess it IS somewhat novel in the ADSL space, since it requires an ISP that is prepared to accept ML-PPPoE connections, as well as hardware that has multiple ADSL interfaces.
More power to them, I guess.

I wonder how latency is affected?

but if your making multiple PPPoE connections your not really bonding the ADSL lines your just load balancing. Or am I wrong?
firstly before you all get carried away...
your cant multi link as telkom does not allow this on the ESR.
and oh please QoS?, of course you cannot provide QoS.
Telkom's ESR do not do QoS, so yes you may provide QoS over the Layer 3 portion but it doesn't matter if the packet is not going to be honored on layer 2.
another scam!

the bonding is probably done by building a vpn (something like pptp) where the gre protocol used to carry the vpn is session-less and can be load balanced on a per packet kinda scheme. this really doesn't seem new to me either....
of course the vpn has to break out somewhere, a server host for example, so you would then pay for the dsl accounts to run the vpn and then again to get internet access...

sounds like vpn tunnel.
thinking the same.. local adsl accounts going onto their network for the guaranteed international pipe

GREAT!!! Pay 5 times for your dsl connection.
This is not a new concept though. Surprise me that it took someone so long to bring this out.
BUT... R8 356/60GB = R139/GB
+ 2 400/month for a box with 5 adsl modems and some software
Why isn't the box for sale? I suppose the bandwidth is worth paying for if reliability can be guaranteed but who will really use 20Mbps at a constant pace when you only have 60GB to use. It isn't cheaper when you can get 6035GB in 30 days with a 20Mbps leased line.

Not to mention that your traffic potentially travels over different IP addresses each time you request / send, hence many boards like this one will require you to log in every post or so...
Of course all of this can be done on an old win or *nix box

This is probably the most useless news article EVER, guess someone backhanded MyADSL to get this posted!
This firm probably got someone to read the MikroTik RouterOS Manual.
I've been boding 4x4mbit ADSL lines for ages, via a PC running RouterOS.
RouterOS: www.mikrotik.com - Level 5 license is like a few hundred rand.
System Requirements:
a Routerboard: www.routerboard.com
Or a crappy pc, like 200mhz, 40 MB disk, few meg memory.
Another -1 to the MyADSL
You can only bond adsl if you've got a mikrotik box at your isp and then they will need a pipe big enough to handle your bandwidth, would be interesting to know which isp does allow it?

Dont understand these guy's logic.
No one can buy bandwidth/circuits (especially intl) from Telkom cheaper than they can supply themselves (that why they are referred to as an anti-competitive monopoly). If one tries, you end up contending your bw far higher than Telkom to make the economics work, thus providing an inferior service. Case in point, IS ADSL vs. SAIX ADSL.
If you're using Telkom based accounts, bonding is out of the question (without reverting to clunky VPN methods) so one has to use load-balancing. Luckily this is not to hard to achieve with Linux, Mikrotik or Cisco 870 class router.

Don't understand this post. They are selling the bandwidth for way more than Telkom is selling it. By my calculations the bandwidth would cost a company far more than what an appropriate leased line would which is probably where they are making their money.
Chinese maths marketing again.

Don't understand this post. .... By my calculations the bandwidth would cost a company far more than what an appropriate leased lineNo chance ... a 20Mbps Bronze class (8:1 contend) Internet access leased line is going to cost you a bit more than R200,000 p/m (inc. 34 Mbps ATM local lead < 50Km) .... load-balanced ADSL is still far cheaper. Yes the leased line would be totally unlimited and guaranteed, but few businesses, let alone individuals, could warrant this cost.
Anyway my point was about comparing Telkom re-sold ADSL bandwidth vs. IPC + own bandwidth (bought from Telkom in another form).

I know your point but they are marketing this against leased lines. On a 20Mbps line you can get nearly 6,035 GB which would cost R840,474. In essense they are planning on selling it off for way more than it's worth. Anyway this is not market for the small business.
