which games don't i have to download mod files before I play?

they're so annoying! i understand the mod community likes to make their own stuff, but is there any game which doesn't allow mods for their normal maps? after all, we have limited bandwidth in this country, and you never know HOW much you have to download before you start playing.

Which games are you referring to?

+1 Battlefield 2, although there are new official maps being released from time to time.
 
no, official stuff is fine, it's just the loads of mod crap that annoy me.

i was referring to fps games and only fps games :)
 
Battlefield 2 has an online ranking and unlock system so they strictly forbid mods on ranked servers which is what SAIX runs.

Besides which it's just an absolutely kick a$$ game ;)

I feel your pain though it used to annoy the **** out of me when I used to play PC games...

You just want a quick game and you join up to some game that forces you to download half the internet so that the one idiot in the corner can run around looking like Lara Croft...

Stupid mods...

Yes, but players are gravitating back to BF2 because 2142 is more like a full price expansion to BF2 than a whole new game. They had the same thing with BF1942 and BF:Vietnam.

The BF2 community is still going very strong, even more since BF2 got a price drop to about R100!

If you want to meet some of the local BF(2 & 2142) guys and girls, I recommend to go over to www.wargeeks.org.

couldn't have said it better! i hate consoles so that's definitely a no. I'll get BF 2 then.

btw, at the moment, i am enjoying quake wars demo
 
BF2 ftw..

It does need a rather hefty 500MB patch, but you'll be pleased to hear that EA have stopped patching it, so that's all you'll need. I think in two years there have only been two new map releases.

BF2 is growing stronger every day, at rAge I think the BF2 comp was bigger (in terms of players) than 2142..

It's not uncommon to have three almost full servers of an evening
