Broadband boom time

thats good and all but still 1GB cap and 384k :(
 
Just more waffle about what WILL BE and what we are GOING TO GET and what is being PLANNED and more blah blah blah.......humbug!
 
What this CEO's don't speak about is how EXPENSIVE and UNRELIABLE their wireless offerings are (3G etc.. )

I mean really ..

For anyone paying less than R500 its still slow, anyone paying more than R500 its costly...

Its great that its all growing and we're getting more services, but the prices are still a bit high and its still not fast enough.

It'll be interesting to see if WiMAX (which is supposed to be a cheaper to run service) prices will be on par with current broadband prices.

e.g. Cybersmart 384/128kbs circuit 1 GIG CAP R169

This of course excludes the compulsory voice line rental. :rolleyes:

Takes me back to when I got my first ADSL connection back in the UK in about 2001. That terrible blue USB fish modem that used about 50% of the computer's resources to operate. Faster than what I choose to pay for now as well...

BS! With caps like ours this is not broadband. Calling South African high speed internet connections broadband would be like calling 5 metres of the Autobahn a freeway! You can go as fast as you want, just not very far...

In 2001, I had 512Kbps ADSL in Germany, obviously uncapped and unshaped for about R300 p/m which at the time included ISDN and unlimited calls within Germany on weekends.

Yes, that indeed makes me </MISTY EYED> too.

I also remember leeching 11-12 gigs in one 24 hour period of which 4 gigs was purely upload. eDonkey days! Yay! :)

Oh, and...Hammer time! :D
