A crazed man brandishing several kitchen knives has gone on a rampage in New York, seriously injuring two people before he was shot by police.

Man was shot by off-duty officerThe shirtless attacker, identified as Lee Coleman, 38, slashed a restaurant worker across the face before running into the street in the city's East Side.

There he jumped on an elderly dog walker before slashing her several times.

The woman, 67-year-old Susan Baron, was stabbed in the arms, face, neck and abdomen, according to the New York Post.

She was said to be in a serious condition in Bellevue Hospital, where the injured restaurant worker, Amansit Singh, 56, is said to be in critical condition.

Off-duty police officer Gregory Chin, who was in a diner at the time, rushed into the street and challenged Coleman.

The knifeman reportedly jumped up waving his knives at which point Mr Chin shot him.

Even having been shot in the torso, it took five police officers to wrestle Coleman to the ground, witnesses said.

One, Isi Harrison, 23, who lives nearby, told the Post: "It was crazy. I was right next to her. And then they shot the guy."

Coleman was said to be in a stable condition in hospital.

Police said he would be charged with attempted murder, assault and possession of a criminal weapon.

The knife becomes a "criminal weapon" when there is an intent to use it unlawfully against another so clearly the tool isnt to blame. ;)

The crazed man must be from the continent. I love the way the cop shot him. Can't do that here.

Police at the shooting sceneThe 20-year-old gunman left another victim in a critical condition when he opened fire at a house party.

He was later shot dead by officers in the town of Crandon, Wisconsin.

You chaps go on about one stabbing incident in the states :D have you got a clue how many people DIED this past weekend in SA because of stabbings? I am a cop from Jeffreysbay and I can confirm at least one. Stabbing is our 'national sport' but who cares - this things are sort of expected in this country :(
 
Cop or not, I doubt we have many people running around upper class restaurants slashing bystanders...

We would love to hear more about the inner workings of the police and crime in the country though... How can we believe you are a copy though?
 
If you had shot the stabber in J-Bay, how much trouble would you be in now Gomario?

Usually when people say "the continent" they mean Europe, not sure how he comes to that conclusion with this guy though?

Those people are normally English who call Europe the continent. I guess people in Hawaii could call people from the USA the continent?

True but a lot of people I know here do the same, must be the English background. :) They often refer to the "continental USA" so maybe.
