“Will Neotel launch within our lifetime?”

While I understand that Poison Ivy and her Hippocampus entourage at the Dementia of Communistications, are largely responsible for NeeTel's apparent failure so far, what with the disaster that is Infraco etc, I tend to think that NeeTel should have taken legal action against Poison Ivy and her Dementia of Communistications.
Hay further promised, tongue in cheek, that Neotel will launch services well within everyone’s lifetime.

:rolleyes: Angus Hay obviously doesn't know that Telkodemonopolies is systematically killing off NeeTel's potential cash-cow customer-base and South Africa's economy, and NeeTel's bizarre sluggishness is actually helping Telkodemonopolies...
Hay pointed out that CDMA provides peak speeds of 3.1 Mbps, and that end-users can realistically expect average speeds of around 600 to 700 Kbps. These speeds are however seen as a basic voice and fast Internet service by Neotel, and the company does have plans to launch a ‘true broadband’ offering using WiMax.

CDMA2000 just seems like a waste of time to me, the only advantage is being able to operate in the 800MHz frequency range which means less CDMA2000 base-stations and the signal travels further with less interference, but NeeTel is yapping about WiMax, why bother with CDMA2000 when simultaneously promising WiMax, and what about wired fixed line services like xDSL, e.g. ADSL2+???
 
They only thing I got from Neotel so far was a nice crystal cube with their name lazered into it. Cool paperweight. Come on already NEOTEL!!!!

Dont they have to wait for the mythical LLU first?
 
and even when it does come out.. how is it going to work?
eg ... ring ring (from cell phone) "hello sir" ,
hi i would like to apply for a line in PTA ,
"ok sir atm the closet line to you is 5 km away , would you mind paying for that line and then when other people join in your area then we will re-emberse you"

aaaaa ok what ever it takes to get telkom ...

"ok thank you sir, but just to in form you it will take approximatly 5 to 8 months"

No, NeeTel does not need to wait for LLU, what NeeTel could do whilst waiting for LLU, is offer ADSL via IPConnect like Internet Solutions & Verizon Business do - it would not be a perfect solution but at least it would allow NeeTel to get a foothold into the ADSL market and would probably result in kick-starting LLU, also NeeTel has the advantage of being able to lay its own fibre optic IPConnect links unlike IS & VB that have to rent them from Telkodemonopolies. Vodacom and MTN are also allowed to do the same - even CellC could get into ADSL in this way.
 
They can't provide low cost voice while the interconnect fees between the other operators are what they are. Unless you want to phone only people that are Neotel customers. He's talking rubbish.
 
November/December is responsible for about 50% annual retail sales.

If Neotel misses this silly season, they don't have much of a chance.

But in view of their sluggish progress, I will not be a first tester this time. I'll leave it to others to risk burning their fingers with the never-never kid on the block.

Granted - but you specifically mentioned ADSL2+, a service not yet on offer from anyone. Unless NeoTel has access to the local loop then how do you propose it can get to the home?
 
quite honestly those people have to be nuts to think they can compete with telkom.... its will be like Cell C taking on vodacom... as much as telkom needs competition its gonna be one tough ride for the okes at Neotel

Telkodemonopolies has no effective wired fixed line competition yet, so the beast has no incentive to provide ADSL2+ prior to !CASA issuing TelkodemonopoliesMedia with its licence.

In order to get ADSL2+ and LLU, we need wired fixed line competition, even if it is only ADSL competition to start with, it would kick-start things to the point where LLU might happen and we might get ADSL2+.

This is why I say that one of !CASA's biggest mistakes was to hand NeeTel a licence after seeing NeeTel's business plan which specifically mentions concentrating on CDMA2000 and nothing about wired services like xDSL.
 
Hay said that Neotel has decided not to give specific launch dates any more, but said that residential Internet and voice services are currently being trialed internally and will be extended to consumers ‘soon’.
