Free Satellite TV service to continue

You have to be very religious and in need of 24/7 religious programming to want this service.

Just set it up on your existing DSTV decoder - BTV sometimes has some decent stuff on...

otherwise yeah - pretty much all religious channels...

I was not aware that it was all free. No bad if you are in a remote area…maybe the programming can improve, but the price is certainly right :D

Btv

BTV? R u referring to Botswana TV or Business TV? Anyway, I am keen on Christian channels. Is possible to set a DSTV decoder to access Vivid channels? DSTV only has TBN and Rhema TV.

I'm referring to Botswana TV..

Yeah, just a settings change, and all the channels are available - except SABC 1, 2, 3, etv - but they're on DSTV anyway.

Yeah. I think I will get this. My TV reception sucks.

Yes, SABC 1,2,3 and E are NOT free.
They are on there but unavaiable. Need to pay someone something I guess.

Etv "was" free but they took it off. Possibly licensing issues - you pay to broadcast a movie etc in SA, not the whole of africa.(Satelite has rather a large coverage area).

Btv is different setting. As is Fasion TV, Mana and a few others.

There are some news channels just added:
"Press", "SABC international" "CNBC" and you get BBC world on Btv most of the time as well.

Sorry about the page - I put it up years ago - no longer a client of WorldOnline, haven't been for years - yet they leave the site there... oh well - it may just have come in handy. :p

Here are some settings...

@Ivork - know the settings for "As is Fasion TV, Mana and a few others."?

I'll have to get the settings off my decoder tonight.
I'll post them tomorrow.

That's one of the reasons I got DSTV - my terrestrial reception sucks, of course the recent storms have been interfering with my DSTV reception - not drastically, but just at a crucial action moment the decoder friezes and then thinks it is attached to the Arecibo radio telescope scanning for extraterrestrial signals as part of the SETI program...

Price sounds nice, but after reading the following posts, it doesn't sound like a bargain anymore...

I have seen specials of R1 750. Also check with a nearest Multichoice installer.
IIRC that's a bit more than I paid for my DSTV decoder+installation, somehow I don't see rural South Africans being able to afford this.

Vivid requires another decoder. It uses the Nagra encoding system to encrypt its channels. They won't work on the DSTV system. You can get it to work with a Linux decoder system like a dreambox or PC satellite card and software (illegal).

Fashion TV (India) is no longer broadcast. The spot is now occupied by F24 (France 24) - a news channel.

True, but that's for the encrypted channels only - the rest are fine.

Aah, didn't know that it was gone. Never watched it anyway.
What do you mean by "India"? It was exactly the same as the DSTV channel - I checked once to see.

Left me wondering about all the additional channels DSTV were boasting about at the time - and ripping us off for - when they were free in anycase!

According to Sentech, SABC1,2,3 and ETv are Free Access TV channels (hence encripted?)while the religious channels like God channel, TCT channel, etc are Free to Air (FTA).

I have a question though... can all DSTV decoders (e.g. DSD990, PVR, etc) be set to show FTA's or only certain ones(which ones)?
