Joburg's broadband plans speed up

Hi Tns

The JHB dude was not very clear about their plans...spoke more about socio-economic issues etc. I personally think a lot will have to happen before we will ever be able to get connected through our municipality!

aaa sounds like telkom itself! :D socio-economic issues being money and who is going to pay and control it.

at least they are doing something.....well it looks like it anyway.

Putting in metro fibre networks is all great and lovely. Three questions spring to mind:
- How is the fibre connected to the customers - more wireless, fully unbundled local loops connected to the fibre backhaul, another copper connection to every customer?
- Where is this connected into t'internet? SAIX, IS, Neotel, Telkom?
- Is this service aimed at me, a standard punter? Or is it schools, businesses, BBSP*s who will resell to the actual consumer?

These seem to me to be the main hurdles to me seeing a competing service.

* BBSP - Broadband Service Provider - acronym invented, in the same way as the press, to make this comment sound authoritive.

eThekweni has been going for years about this.
I have not heard anything lately about how far they are. Maybe eThekweni is unique in the hurdles that they face now. but I dont think so.
and the hurdles are not one of Technology
