The laptop is old (2.8GHz P4) but it still works. The DVD drive started giving problems with some discs long ago and now it just won't work whatsoever. Typical optical drive old-age death. The local PC shop says that replacing such drives is way too expensive (R2000 for acer lappies) and I should rather buy a normal PC optical drive and put it in an enclosure (which is uber bulky). Does anybody know if I can buy a new replacement drive for the laptop for cheap (as in, not R2000
)? I don't mind putting it in myself...can't be that hard. I don't want an enclosure + pc optical drive due to less mobility. A DVD burner would be nice but a replacement DVD combo drive should do the trick.
Any help appreciated!
