Has any1 overclocked a Q6600 to 3.8GHz?

I had a Zalman CNPS 9700 on my E6600. Was running it @ 3.4 GHz permanently, excellent cooler, but very noisy (and BIG). I need to clock my Q6600 from 2.4 to at least 3.8 GHz, but need a smaller, less noisier cooler. But which one?

ya but ocing, does not only heatup your cpu

it heats up your north bridge south bridge

try it but i doubt you'll get 3.8 man, worth trying though

Remember, people who are overclocking their quad core CPU's to insane frequencies are disabling most of the cores.

If you try get 3.8ghz on air, its going to end in tears :p

Pretty sure 3.8 won't happen. Your best choice on an air cooler will be the Thermalright ultra 120 extreme but if you want a compact one which still cools awesome i would go for the thermalright ultima 90 with a 120mm fan attached.

Yeah think u right guys... 3.8 is really pushing it. Gonna settle for 3.4, thx zen gonna check out those coolers ;)

Yea xeo i think i'll be very happy with a 3.4 stable 24/7 OC when i eventually get my quaddie :D Here's a nice linky to a comprehensive review of coolers showing the thermalrights kicking a**!

Thanx zen, but that cooler won't fit in my case... need something that'll fit in here; http://mybroadband.co.za/photos/showphoto.php?photo=1407

Those two turbo like holes are exhaust ducts on the kandalf extreme, leaving space for a flat cooler only.

Oh Xeo that sucks man. How much space do you reckon that you have for the cooler? The ultima is 14cm high if i recall right.....

Lol I've got about 4 cm between the cpu fan and the ducts.. that's why i need a flat solution :o
