OK, the translation is a bit screwy, but the message is pretty clear. No unlocked iPhone for France then.
But then I saw this (look in the bottom left corner):

So it is coming then. Not sure about the details - my french doesn't cover any of the polite language in this article

Now, I'm willing to pay a slight premium to get a network-agnostic iPhone, but that's a bit steep. But either ways this is good. It might just be the beginning of the end of the tie-in. It's only a matter of time before someone figures out how to copy the firmware on the unlocked iPhone and stick it on a locked one...
