Hi, i am looking for a new laptop, ive got a budget of R12000.

I need the Laptop for work but i love playing games and had to sell my desktop to get the money so the laptop will be my only way of playing.

Whats the best performing + games friendly(Graphics & memory wise)?

Wow, awesome laptop...

Even looks good + the price also doesnt look to bad(R14000)

Is there a significant difference between HP and Acer or is this just a buyers preference....

It's a brilliant laptop, no questions asked (also has more USB ports than my PC lol)

both can do webcam and bluetooth

but Acer has a card reader + HD-DVD Drive

My friend bought it from Singapore a month ago for R9000 lol

the review date for this laptop is September....

EDIT: sorry forgot to add that it was $200 off all notebooks over $1000

You can look at the MSI if you want. If you want more information, and perhaps a quote, give me a buzz

I sent you a e-mail on your website.. :)

14k is not too bad, would love to get it a bit cheaper.

Only problem, I need Windows XP Pro and not Vista, my work has not yet switched to Vista and the damn IT woman says "XP only"

Will it be possible to switch Vista Home Basic with XP Pro?
Will there maybe be a price reduction?

I found this on the local Dell Web site
D830 Intel Core 2 Duo T7250 (2.0GHz/2MB/800MHz) with nVidia Quadro NVS 140M
R8290 ex vat and delivery.
You can upgrade to 2GB RAM for next to nothing.

I doubt you will find a better deal than this.

For some reason it keeps logging me on to view this but just go to www.dell.co.za click on notebooks and look at the bottom of the Smart Value Promotions on the right of the page.

Between Dell, HP, Acer, Meccer ?

Any brand i should try to avoid completely?

Dell, HP and Acer are pretty good and respected companies..

but you said you wanted to game as well, to game you should have a decent graphics card on your notebook....

the 7800 to the 8600

Cool thanks, another noob question..

Are all laptops upgradeable and is it worth upgrading or should you rather buy a new laptop every 2-3 years?

I'm not sure about the GPU but RAM and HDD and CPU can definatley be upgraded... Make sure to take it to a professional though....

Call Dell, 0117097700, ask for an Inspiron, 1520(like mine) or Inspiron 1720 or a Voostro 1400. They are wonderful laptops, esp. my Inspiron 1520 Midnight Blue, with 1680*1080 screen, Gr8 Graphics, processor, screen, internal cam and everything, & much better priced than anywhere else, but prepare to wait though, they also sell ones which ship in 4 days ;) I would not want any other laptop, truly magnificent! only downside it that I have waited almost 2 months to receive mine, they do have 4-day shipping stock though.

That Acer one still beats the Dell Harware wise...

Bravester, remmber, if you want to play games, buy a notebook with a decent graphics card.
