Ok so here it is. One of the first proper reviews i have seen for this card.
8800GT
Looks very promising. I just wish they had compared it to a 8800gts640 aswell. And have a look at the heat prod. Don't think that single slot cooler is doing such a good job.
 
it looks very good

when is it coming out? i want to buy this instead of the 8800GTS 320Mb
 
Looks like it will be close to the GTS from those results...
 
it kicks the gts's ass in a huge way

must flog my gts in time for this :)

sigh:( i really want to upgrade soon

but i don want the whole "that card is cheaper and better, or your card has de-valued because of that card" in my mind ifn i buy the 8800GTS

Don't know how you get that one? It absolutely kills the gts.Even kicks the HD2900XT's butt quite considerably.

Why would you buy a more expensive card that gets whipped by the new one.One of the dealers on systemshock is selling these cards for about R2600 Pre-order. So they should be available really soon.

EXACTLY what i said. Im so tired of us getting nailed all the time. I mean you could run two of those for R3400 if you lived overseas. But this is SA and getting ripped is part of everyday life.
 
Just so you all know Andy's price is including vat and shipping to your local post office but no local warranty since he imports directly from the States. He does over a 6 month return but with a 10% restocking fee. If you want insurance you need to add R16.

I am thinking of getting the 8800 gt but I first want to see if the difference between it and the 640mb 8800 gts makes it worth it.

Stefan... The 8800gt may not have the performance of the 8800gts 640 because it's got 512 memory, BUT it does have higher clock speeds...It also does have 112 stream processors which means it might just bum rape that 8800gts 640... It does beat down a ATI HD 2900XT buy quite a bit, but that doesn't say much... However, a 8800gt is more stable then a 8800gts 640, maybe because it's ram config is liked by games...

One more factor you must consider is that the drivers on the 8800gts aint the best, and on the 8800gt the seem a fair bit more stable, and they still early, so once the 8800gt gets a bit more mature,the drivers will be pushing it quite nicely...
 
The 8800GTS is getting a upgrade, so the new 8800GTS will still own the 8800GT, the old model is a completely other story tho...

I could be wrong but as far as I know the new model only gets some extra shaders. Clocks still stay the same speed.
