ATI Radeon HD 3800 series due in November

Apparently due 15 Nov. But its gonna have to be good seeing the GT's performance. Lets hope! And after that R680!!(dual gpu)

That one will be interesting seeing as these cards need the performance boost just to be able to get decent framerates out of the latest games. With the setting maxxed out of course, but any enthusiast wants that and if ATI can't give it to them...
 
the sad thing is their top model is focusing on the 8800gt, what about the next gts and im sure nvidia have a higer end card coming before the end of year

so amd's top card can only go with nvidia entry level g92

No, vs HD3870 and the ATI loses, but the price will still be better. Looks like it should be enough to make it worthwhile though.

I don't think things are looking that badly, if they win on price/performance, most people don't care that the top of the line card loses to other Nvidia cards. Only thing I'd be worried about if whether or not the cards have enough power to play the latest games well enough. :eek:

That doesn't mean much.
No developer is going to target DX10.1 exclusively. With DX10.1 there is even less visual difference between it and DX10. Most of the "features" or pre-requisites for DX10.1 like full 128-bit precision HDR were already standard on the 8800... The G80 never did support partial precision anyway. The AA samples and patterns are already present for the 8800.

It's good on paper to say DX10.1 but there really is no difference worth bothering with.
After all its still SM4.0 unlike with DX9.0b vs DX9.0c which was SM2.0 vs SM3.0
 
yea shock but when dx 10.1 does become a reality it would be nice not to have upgrade :)

although the way games are going, you need a new upgrade every 6 months
 
Well if ATI succeeds in the R680's then quad SLI(or crossfire if you wish) will become possible and seeing as Nvidia only currently has tri SLI the new performance crown might go to ATI. Not that it matters really. But Nv are apparently working on their quad SLi.
 
What if no one can afford 3 or 4 high end cards? :eek: I wouldn't be surprised.. Doubt that would ever be worth it, SLI was already pushing it.
 
Aah, nevermind the last message, but tri-sli for double performance. :/

ATI released their expectations (not sure what it's based on, hopefully real tests) for quad SLI, and the scaling looked good. Around 2.2 or 2.4X performance for simulated tri-sli.

But I'm sure it will be similar to Nvidia's in the end.
