New Mobo... Need Help

Dunno man. Im upgrading soon also and will prob be going for the Asus P5K as its a nice OC'ing board and nice and solid. Depends what you want to do with it i suppose.
 
But WKJ you prefer the Nvidia chipsets to the intel ones. But if you were OCing the P5K would be better right..? Hows that striker of yours handling you?
 
asus p5k cannot do raid 0, i would not suggest this board to anyone

rather buy gigabyte they dont leave out stuff like raid
 
Depends wether you wll ever use it. And isn't raid0 pretty unstable anyways? It's fast yes but if you don't care about using it then its not an issue. What gigabyte board would you recommend then?

its no more unstable than a normal hdd running your os

ppl say you should not run raid cause if one drive fails then all your data is gone, but you should not be storing data on a config in the first place

u run raid purely for your os, if anything goes wrong you loose nothing

ive run raid for a long time, with 2 80 gigs for about 2 years and ive been running my raptors raid for about 6 months

yes but if you buy a mobo would it not be nice to know if you want to try raid you can?
 
Ok Killa clear this up for me. It cannot do any raid...or just can't do raid0?
And in his pricerange what gigabyte board do you recommend?

Yes I do, but I still have a few Intel chipsets lying around the place. I speak from experience when I tell people to go for the Nvidia ones.

The P5N-E SLi overclocks like a *beep*, I overclocked an E6550 to 3.2GHz yesterday on one with stock cooling... :D

And the Striker Extreme is BRILLIANT! :)
 
I have a friend who also swears by Nvidia chipsets. Im saying this because i have read that the 650i chipset isn't the greatest OC'er. It will OC but not all that well. And aren't there issues sometimes with them being very picky with the ram(or the amount of sticks)?

All of the experiences I've had with the 650i chipset (especially with the Asus P5N-E SLi) have been quite positive. And the E6550 running at 3.2GHz begs to differ about the overclocking capabilities :D

Never had any problem with the RAM, though. But I think they do suffer from the "All four slots are full so I'll just randomly stop booting" as some other Asus motherboards, I just haven't experienced it myself.
 
I would pick either the P5K or the XFX 650i. Both are great boards in terms of overclocking..

But if features are more important then Gigabyte P35 DS3R or the DS3P will do... you wont be disappointed either
 
The OP probably hardly wants to OC btw guys... and he's got an old 40GB IDE HDD for Windows. So things like raid 0 and which board can push a CPU higher probably don't matter.

I'd also go for either the P5K or the P5N-E SLI. The Asus board is probably a little better quality than the XFX on the same chipset, but that XFX is a good gaming board.
