Vista wont connect 2 internet, Local only

Sorry if this has been posted before, tried searching the threads. I have a Vista Business laptop and i cannot connect to this internet. It states CONNECTED LOCAL only. You cannot even connect to local sites.

I have searched google and it seems as if alot of people are having the same problem. Has anyone sorted this out on their machine. VISTA is just a nightmare:mad::mad::mad:
 
Are you using ADSL? I had the same problem, eventually got it work using a static IP and settings. Then after a while I tried it using DHCP again and it was working fine, so not sure what the problem was. :)
 
Yes, I had an issue at my ex's place with the Telkom wireless ADSL router, I had to set it up to use static IP's on the machine.
 
Yes, it is adsl and Telkom lines. Sorry for my ignorance, how would you setup static IP's on the machine.

Go to Control Panel > Network & Sharing Centre > Manage Network Connections then right click on your LAN connection and go to properties, double click TCP/IP IPv4 and you'll see there you can specify IP addresses, DNS servers etc.
 
Now i am gonna sound even more ignorant. Where would i obtain the IP address and DNS details for Telkom. Sorry man, not used to these things. thanks again

You don't need IP address details for Telkom, you just use an internal IP that's on the same subnet as your router? For instance if your router's local IP is 192.168.1.1 make your IP 192.168.1.2

For DNS use these servers:

196.43.34.190 196.43.46.190
 
click on networking in vista then network and sharing

right click local area connection
select properties
double click tcpipv4

also make default gateway your router along with preffered dns

my advice though get a better router and flog the telkom one

dont know why telkom sell routers that need static ip's
