XFX nForce 680i LT SLi Motherboard

XFX nForce 680i LT SLi Motherboard, what doth yee all think o' this motherboard?

Im a great fan of XFX so i like it, but im having alot of trouble choosing the motherboard i'd realy like...

Im also looking at the GA-N680SLI-DQ6 but it seems to be overkill, im not going to use quad networking... and i realy dont think i'd use quad SLI....

Then there is also the GA-X38-DQ6, its less overkill but im a great fan of nvidia chipsets, but i hear that there's nothing wrong with Intel chipsets, and they perform close to the nvidia's...

And there's also the P5N-E-SLI
but i mean there's a clear difference between R1k, and R2.5K

Please, i dont want to be persuaded to take a spesific motherboard... but id appreciate any advise, and\or other reccomended motherboards...

(But that XFX has cought my eye and i feel myself drawn to it, but is it a good choice?)

I'm also looking at buying a new system and the XFX does seem like the best option at the moment. Most reviewers on the hardware websites seem to like it and the performance is on par with other high spec intel boards. Some of the sites mention that it does not overclock as well as some of the other(much more expensive) boards.

The only thing that bugs me a bit are the chipset fans. I have been a techy before and can remember having endless hassles with chipset fans getting noisy and eventually dying - but those were with asus boards so maybe the xfx ones are better.

I'll probably get one of these anyway and just replace the chipset fans with decent aftermarket stuff when/IF they die.
 
i agree, but on the other hand, i saw that they say that the board is a stable overclocker... like most other 680i's
 
true, saw some of the intel chipsets were between 3% and 5% better on overclocking. But like you say, its very stable for a 860i board
 
apparently the LT is for "lite" so this spesific 680i is a bit not fully 680i like other mobo's (im not totally sure, but it could be)

I realy just want to get a motherboard... im tired of looking for stuff...

The board is solid, but all fans die eventually (usually sooner than later), just prepare in advance.

I usually say go for the best price/performance. If there are any features on a motherboard that you don't plan to use, why buy it over another one without the features? :D

I'd recommend having a look at the 650i and 680i chipsets.

Yeah, the thing is that most new boards use heatpipe solutions so they dont have chipset fans that can go all funkey which is a bonus.
 
Yep I think that I'll also be getting this one.

Just read that the 680's run quite hot so having the active cooling on it rather than the heatpipes do seem to make more sense. Replacement fans are cheap anyway.

I think you should include the Gigabyte P35 DS3R/P aswell... awesome boards

But anyway i came across this guy

His board hisses from the PWM area with a quad lol... not too sure anymore. Guess me getting a P35 wasn't such a bad idea after all
 
Okay so a quick quesiton,
Im looking for a new board that im going to be putting a Q6600 on.
I am not planning on running SLI at any point, but I have read that its not too hard to get the clock in the region of 3GHZ on this CPU.
Most of the boards people are talking about are SLI boards, now is that because of the chipset or are you using SLI?
I dont want to pay the extra for an SLI board if its not neccessary.

I bought this board and a XFX 8600 GT to go with it.
So far I'm 100% happy. It's given me no grief and it runs very smoothly. I haven't tried over clocking it yet but from reviews i've read since i bought it it seems that it performs very well there too.

well heres my line of thinking.. although that was an EVGA mobo.. XFX and EVGA manufacture there mobos according to nividia's reference design.. So basically both mobos are identical in every way.

So if the EVGA mobo doesnt like them quads pulling that much current while overclocking and hence the hissing.. there is a good possibility the XFX MIGHT do the same...

You might or might not have this problem..... even though i still think its an excellent mobo... I couldn't get my grubby hands on one so settled for this P35.
