What R140 3G sim?
3G Sim sold at Incredible Corruption and comes with some contracts too AFAIK.
It's been mentioned on the forum a few times too...

Think the '3G' sim has got more storage for phone numbers, like 64k, instead of 32.

The price of a SIM varies according to the product on sale. If it's a cheap bottom of range cellphone, they will try and siphon R150 extra for the SIM as a condition of sale. This boosts the revenue from a cheap loss-leading product. IMHO ICASA should have put a stop to it years ago.
Sometimes you can get around it by saying "I've already got a Vodacom SIM" and they cannot reasonably argue that you need to buy another.

damn a sim for 140 rand..even if it was so,i would not buy it.

I got the new 3G SIM when I moved over from Vodacom --> MTN.
The new SIM did not work in my HTC MeTeor, so I threw it away and got them to give me an older SIM card (under the lost SIM warranty).
Did not cost me a cent! and best of all it works 100%!

Anyone tried video-calling with their 3G phones yet? How is the video smooth?

I went to MTN's main branch in Brooklyn, I talked to the technician about 3g speeds etc, he said this concerning 3g 'activation' :
You keep your 32K simcard, all that happens is you pay them 140rands for a sim swap. But they dont give you a 3g sim, they... just activate something on the network.
I was told the same thing from mobilesolutions. Wanted R150 for a sim swap.
So basically. You pay R140 for the emperors robe
I am using a R0.99c Pick and Pay simcard, and getting 150KiloBytes per second.
I do not believe a amount of flash memory on a simcard can affect your upload/download speeds at all.

You pay for an activation and no sim? Doubt thats true.
A 32k and 64k works well for browsing, either one wont increase or decrease speeds, but there are some differences with sims.
eg:
8k or 16k.... 3G will work BUT very poorly!
32k and 64K good for 3G and GSM but some users experience problems with GSM with the 64k.
DVBH only works with he 128K sim not other sim!
Where do you Get those 8K or 16K simcards from then? I doubt they are still in circulation as from the 21st century.

hones only. Yet I am using it in my HSDPA data card. After a quick google the very First link I found that contained the text : DVBH and 32K was at myBroadBand.co.za - It seems we are the most misinformed community in the world....
So, after considering my proof of using 32K with HSDPA (no lacking) and Using a 32K Vodacom simcard to get 3G with them too. I am assuring you that simcard size has no relative impact on download speeds.
Try to make less contradicting statements next time, that contains atleast 1 website as citation.

The 64k sim is branded a data sim, so might as well use it in a data card or usb modem. But it wont work 100% in a phone.
A 32k will work for both phones and data cards although im sure a 64k will be best used in the newer 3.6MBs cards/modems.
I use a 32k in my HSDPA card only because i swap the cards all the time, my Blackberry sim is a 64k.
Did I say anything about data speeds in my first post? Nope!

I had to replace my sim card today (lost my phone). The sim they gave me was 64. I'm told this is the new standard now. Autopage cellular and a Vodacom network. Card was free under autosim replacement. Also told it take 24 to 48 hrs to activate so I cannot test it yet.
These grandmasters (of spam) dont really know their carrots from their bananas do they
