Hey guys. I've been told that you have to be actively signed in to Games for windows live to play the PC version of Gears of War, otherwise you can't save your game. Does anyone know if this is true? If it is it would really suck, as I can only connect my gaming PC to the Internet over weekends. Any help would be appreciated.

Don't think so, only have to be logged in to play online!

This a quote from another forum.
You can install and play the game without EVER GOING ONLINE.

The only time it REQUIRES you to go ONLINE, is when you need to create your LIVE account.

The LIVE account requires the CD KEY.

If you want to SAVE, you need to be signed into a LIVE account.

That last line is what is bothering me.

You dont need to go online at all. All you need to do is "sign-in" to a account in the games menu. This does not require that you actually log on to the GFW Live server... It's more like just creating a profile.

Cool. Thanks for the clarification. I decided to buy The Witcher today instead. Maybe I'll buy this one later.

Someone I know on another forum mentioned that they couldn't save unless logged into "Live".

I canceled my order when I read that.

somehow i doubt that...

Me too, that sounds abit stupid, you "have" to be logged into "live"

Perhaps it is to keep track of you stats on the game like the Xbox360 does!?

My girlfriend decided to buy it for me as an early xmas pressie (isn't that sweet?) and I can also confirm that you don't need to be online. If you create an offline profile and start a new campaign you just get a warning that you won't be able to get achievement, and that you will lose your progress if you change to an online account. I think that may be where the confusion came from.

I created an offline profile and i still get the crap about not being able to save and it does not save, will try once more tonight if it does not work will prob throw the rubbish away :)
