I just couldn't resist when I saw 'The Orange Box' at CNA. It's contains full versions of :

Half-Life 2
Half-Life 2 Episode 1
Half-Life 2 Episode 2
Team Fortress 2
Portal

All this for R349.99 - unreal!

The only crap thing is that I must be constantly connected to Steam - sucks donkey balls!!

Is there not a way that I can play a game, without being connected to the internet?

When you're connected to Steam, select "File" --> "Go Offline".

You should now be able to play offline.

Yea! just be careful when installing otherwise noob steam will want to DL 8GB's of data instead of using the DVD!

If this happens:
Just disconnect, autorun the DVD again and click on re-install, this makes it install from the DVD, but only 98% (Stops people copying the DVD) the other 2% odd comes from steam.

Thanks guys - I'll do it right now!! Man, I'm enjoying this... Half-Life + Half-Life 2 = best games I've ever played. :)

*I installed the DVD & then still had to download 100MB patches for Half-Life 2 + Team Fortress 2. ;)

out of interest, I have steam from old CS days and I see halflife2 is pre installed. ANy tips on instalation when I get the orange box?

They update just about everything every week. And its usually the game I want to play. But once my Episode 2 used to crash at one point in the game and after an update (which came about a week after the last one) it ran fine...so its not always a bad thing.

If you right click on it or try go in it should ask for a cd key, you'd just put the orange box cd key in i think...

That will cause it Download all the files off the net. Use the DVD it's got it's own process

Steam is actually a good idea, if you always have a connection and unlimited bandwidth.

I bought the game copied it to a pc I take to college, where I dont have net and couldnt play the game because the offline mode kept reverifying the game... Although everything worked fine when I tested it in offline mode at my house.

But overall its a good program, thinking of buying Call of Duty 4 over Steam :) haha

Yeah, besides the 'always needed internet connection', it's a great utility.

It's only other rival/competitor is Xbox Live which also needs a constant internet connection, but automatically keeps your games up to date.

Steams also got all your friends right there and a quick list of available multiplayer games, which is really great. I'm all for it.

Hey, I love it when it works, hate it when I have to wait to play a game I paid money for...
