I checked the mtn site and i saw my area was a 3g/hsdpa area NOT a gprs/edge area :D so i signed up with mtn for my e220 modem 2gig contract.First 2 months i had 3g and hsdpa note(i live next to a mtn tower) :D every thing was going fine till recently i got DOWNGRADED from
3g/hsdpa to gprs/edge i phoned in they said they will fix the tower they did nothing i still got gprs and i am paying for 3g that was the reason i joined mtn is for 3g not gprs.I checked the map they still lying to the people showing a 3g connectoin were there is not one.

If you dont believe me check the coverage map on mtn site.
this is my address:
Boksburg
Vandykpark
Kiaat street nr 40

Mtn please FIX your coverage map or fix the tower next to my house.
I think its illigal to advertise something your not delivering.
(note i have phoned the help line 0839001212 lets hope these guys fix it before my 2 year contract expires with mtn thats still ALONG time for me)

If i drive up a few block i get hsdpa/3g on my laptop so no its not hardware or software related dont tell me that crap.

Hope MTN guys will read your posting on this forum.

if you're not getting what you signed up for, you have every right to cancel that contract or demand, and receive, a credit for as long as it takes them to fix your tower.

I am just curious, but wouldn't that fall under ASASA jurisdiction on misleading advertising?

You will probably find there's some disclaimer (fine print, or where ever) that prevents you from relying on the map info.

Yeah the fine print they always have a way to cover there ases but then again i know alot of people working at top news papers publicity can hurt them more than anything else.

But ill give them some time hope they fix it.

pm me your details and the reference number for the query you must have logged,il send it through to higher powers.

I think mtn fixed the problem yesterday when i got home i had
a 5 bar signal on my hsdpa and i was able to connect again with hsdpa
thx alot mtn looks like there is still hope for mtn :D.
My ref was 0015686 but it looks like they fixed it. :D

It had to be something wrong with the tower.

In the fine print of all of the data contracts it tells you that it will use 3G/HSDPA when available, when those are not available then it will default back to GPRS/EDGE

Yo, snakepit. You seem like a guy who can get stuff done <...cough....brownnoser....cough..> I'm with MTN and I just got a new HSDPA enabled phone but now the area where I live is like the only orange 'EDGE patch' in a sea of nice and red 3G coverage. Is there a way to apply/advance/complain about this?
I live Pretoria, Rietfontein, 30th Ave. According to MTN coverage map it seems that the "Rietfontein tower" doesn't support 3G 'cause the EDGE coverage seems about the size of a cell.

Petruz go and complain on HelloPeter.com ..

See if they can fix up your fault promptly and fast,, they'll most properly reply back saying they've sorted out the issue.
