Is there something up with the data network? I can't seem to connect at all, tried using three different phones?

Same with me. Data support were useless again. They said it was conjested (yeah right!) - at 10:45pm!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
...and to fix the problem I must turn my phone off and on.......

I spoke to a supervisor (aka an operator with a brain) who said no problems were known, but he did admit it had been down day before yesterday.

These questions are too vague to give any browsing MTN engineers a kick-off point.

1. MTN down = the whole network which never happens.
2. Voice, data, SMS, prepaid or contract?
3. 2G or 3G (EDGE or HSDPA)?
4. What time of day?
5. Which area? Be more specific than just the region or province. Problems could be on a specific base station so specify the suburb at least.

FYI. The peak time for data when most congestion would occur is from 20:00 to 24:00 with the highest usage between 21:45 and 22:30.

@Insider

I'm quite astounded when MTN don't know whether their own network is down or not for a start.

Out of their zillions of subscribers, why am I always the first one to tell them?

Why is the solution always to turn my phone off and on?

Why is it up and down so often lately?

OK,

Down in durbanville, Cape Town, 3G & Edge/GPRS

and REALLY INCONVENIENT!!!!

Can someone please help,

I've had no gprs/egde since Thursday last week. Its only at home, any other place i have fine connection to everything.

I phoned 083 900 1212 as told by someone on 808. I spoke to a Sipho. He told me that it is a problem and the techies are working on the problem. If its not working by today I should call again, but no answer.

I'm in Palmridge Alberton

Thank you

I also experienced GPRS problems yesterday evening. I stay in Helderberg Estate in Somerset West. Things are working here again though.

Have the MTN GPRS problems been sorted out everywhere yet or are there still problems in some areas?

Haha Mtn Has Gprs/edge Coverage? Get Out Of Here

:D da way mtn gprs/edge going im thinking the network dnt support it hahaha :p:p

 BUT i can use 3G/HSDPA ,what good is that if i have to run around looking for 3G coverage WAKE UP MTN

MTN HAS GPRS/EDGE COVERAGE? GET OUT OF HERE :D

Mine working again, but if it goes down again in the middle of a raid or an instance i WILL change my service provider.

though that probably won't help. :(

My connection's been a bit jumpy since yesterday.. slowing down real bad for moments.. :(

Seems to be only on 3G/HSDPA as when I switched down to GPRS/EDGE then it goes fine again.. right now it's going ok on HSDPA...

MTN went down late last night again. Customer service did not pick up and I couldn't check my balance at all.

What's going on. Reliability is at an all-time low IMHO.

MTN has been f**ked up for me in Durban for 4 whole f**king days. I got a data bundle on my E220's that are gonna expire and I can't do ****. The speeds are limited @ 50KB for some reason. In 3 places. All about 40KM apart. HSDPA has just dissapeared everywhere for me. At home, at work and at a friend. And Customer C say there is no problem. Useless retards. I used to get 170KB on HSDPA. All of a sudden, bang, old 3G speeds. Upgrading can't take this long, if so how about a damn refund?

MTN Down

I've had interemittent connectivity since Thursday. My phone disconnects form the network. Restarting my phone SOMETIMES remedies the problem. I phone MTNSP and they can't tell me ****. I have to call MTN Coverage to report the area I'm in. I'VE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM ALL OVER JHB AND PTA!!! FFS MTN - IF SOMETHING IS SERIOUSLY COCKED UP, STOP WITH THE RUN AROUND TACTICS AND TELL US WHEN THE **** IS GOING TO BE FIXED!

The thread is very old. I don't know what else to say. I'm searching to solutions to problems with MTN BECAUSE THEY SUCK, but everyone seems to be in the dark (Africa).

This is from MTN
"We have an issue with RBSGSN2, the node is doing cyclic reloads due to signaling issues that we currently have on the network , please note that our GPRS Support is attending."

"At about 19:15pm, but it was thoroughly investigated and I only got the confirmation on the problem at 20:21pm."

I noticed intermittent problems on Thursday and Friday. Saturday from about 12 pm the problems started again.

"Please note the service has been restored, was restored at 23:00pm."

BS they are still having problems today.

My data's gone. Quite a lot of data problems recently weekends.
