The advantage of getting more RAM??

Hey guys, I was considering the great prices that RAM is ATM in SA, and I'm considering upgrading from 2GB DDR800 to 4GB DDR800.

I know upping your RAM from 1GB to 2GB whilst running Vista helps a lot, but:
Will I see a significant performance increase?
I'm running Vista x64..
(Intel E6750 CPU and 8800gt)
 
yeah..Im trying to find a chart that was posted on toms forums showing the difference between gaming with 2gig and 4gig..And yes there was a difference.
 
Depends upon the application in question.

Unbelievably, some games do manage to use more than 2GB of RAM. Battlefield 2 and Oblivion are examples - when they're in a bad mood.

Dunno if you're a gamer, though. Other intensive apps can also use more... Like image rendering etc.
 
More ram makes a big difference in games were loading screens happen a lot. Witcher for example likes ram the more you have the better the gaming experience.
 
just bear in mind windows vista 32bit cannot see more then 3Gb of Ram and that includes your video card.

so 3Gb onboard RAM and 640Mb Vram means during gaming it will use 3Gb - 640Mb of onboard Ram.

It's actually 4GB minus your VRAM.

And he says he has Vista x64 anyway.
 
windows xp, you wont use more than 2 gig for normal use

4 gig on vista is like 2 gig on xp if you ask me

get 64 bit vista with 4 gig ram and see how a computer should run

if you running xp, up grade because memory pricing will be on the up very soon

As I said in my thread, I'm considering buying a new PC soon. Was told to wait for 256mb 8800gt, and cpu price drops. I also thought that ddr2 prices would likely be increasing soon (because of ddr3) so do you think i should buy my ddr2 ram now?
 
yup pricing is not going to get cheaper on memory, it will only get more expensive

no ddr3 i doubt is affecting ddr 2 sales, ddr3 is not something worth buying now or possibly in the near future (personal opinion)

buy now man :), you'll kick yourself if you dont
