Hi, I recently purchased the Samsung 2232GW, and added an AGP nvidia G force FX5200 to enable me to connect via the DVI connections and get a digital display. After huge problems in installing drivers, I still only get an anologue picture on my monitor. I have a celeron 2.4, 1gig memory, windows XP Home, and an empty wallet!!
Can anybody please advise as to where I am going wrong, I'm obviously missing something here?

He might be trying to connect his Telscum router to his screen?

Anyways...what does it do with just the DVI cable plugged in, and you start up the machine?

Yep, your right, as a newbie I'm in the wrong section, so have posted in correct section as well.
In reply to xraidx i have connected correctly, and when I turn the screen on it simply says a) anologue connection, then b) goes blank and then has a message floating all over the screen saying check your digital cable connection. Which I do (again), and still when rebooting I get the the same story. It is simply not picking up the digital signal via the DVI cable. I'm thinking that maybe my system is incorrect, and on Monday I return the video card and settle for anologue untill I upgrade completel.y, and let a technician sort it out :)

You sure its not a setting on the monitor somewhere? I don't have a digital screen, but I'd assume that if you use a DVI cable, you shoul at least be able to see the PC's bootup.

When the monitor is at a) try switching sources because it sounds like its looking for the signal from analogue, on my LG the "down" button is used to toggle between DVI and D-SUB (analogue).

Well if u have DVI to D-SUB adapter and a D-SUB cable which should have come with the monitor..Then try that to see if the DVI port on the graphics is busted.

Btw what difference are you expecting between D-SUB and DVI ?... You not gonna notice any anyway.....

Imho you are wasting your money buying a cheap graphics card just to use a DVI connection

Edit...Meant D-SUB not VGA :p

Hi MoH, when you live in the outback you take what you can get! I'll take advice on a good graphics card though, so fire away.
For the moment still trying to get from anologue to digital, but good news is I now have a picture with both cables connected.
Thanks for all your advice so far

Haven't been able to get my DVI to work either...same monitor. Hasn't bothered me but im interested in a response aswell...

ok guys,
Thanks for your advice, I think I'll go with MoH and return the card and stick with my analogue screen until I update all together. Since I don't play games I suppose I won't miss it. It just seems such a pity to have a good monitor and not be utilising it to its full potential.
Maybe I should have gone with my first inclination, a new 42" LCD tv, but the wife put her foot down, and we spent 4 weeks in the uk instead. To make matters worse I missed the World Cup, and as a thank you I got this new lcd monitor that I can't use properly :)
Anyway, thanks for listening and keep up the advice

Don't post in 2 sections of the forums, instead ask a mod to move your thread ;) Welcome to the forums btw.

Anyway to the topic at hand, please try the following:

Go into the Nvidia Control panel (right click on the Desktop -> select Properties -> go to the Settings Tab -> click the Advanced button -> click on the tab that describes the Video Card you are using "Geforce FX5200" for example -> Now click "Start the NVIDIA Control Panel"

The alternative way of reaching this menu is to right click the desktop and there might be a option called "NVIDIA Control Panel" or something similar.

Once you've reached this control panel expand the Display tree, click on Setup multiple displays in that tree, NOW select "Only use one display (Single)"

Next there should be a drop down list entitled "Please select the display you would like to use", On this list pick the DIGITAL connector.

In my case I have two options on the list "L90D + D-SUB" & "L90D + DVI", DVI is the digital connector.

Hope this helps ;)

EDIT: Here's a picture of how what I described (pictures make it so easy ;) ) http://img134.imageshack.us/img134/9052/exampleic0.jpg

It wont show up on a single monitor setup like the OPs...You have a twin monitor setup hence you have a choice of which monitor on a port to use as Single.

If the DVI to D-SUB adapter is plugged in and the monitor D-SUB plugged into that...If its still not working...Then its prob busted.

Friend has a sim problem with his DVI port on a 6600GT..But he uses D-SUB anyway

Btw its basically plug n play..I can pull myn out from one port and plug into the other while the pc is on and it will work.. No need to select

Edit just realized this now. You have both cables plugged into the graphics and monitor :p.But still no need for that...If his DVI was working..It should have displayed the post screen atleast

Not sure what you are trying to say :D but I have one monitor with two plugs (DVI & D-SUB), which the card registers as a twin monitor setup, my PC usually selects the analogue for some reason, which is why I though he might have the same problem. Many panels come with both digital and analogue connectors and plugging in both registers as twin monitor.

EDIT: But like you said the DVI -> D-SUB -> DVI is the most effective test imho...

Oh wait, ok I think I see what you're saying the monitor only has one port, the digital one? In that case it's probably a problem with the Gfx card...

Lol btw why do you have both D-Sub and Dvi plugged in ? you only need one..Pull out the D-Sub cable:D

I would :D but the BIOS setup screen doesn't work when the panel is in digital mode, it just reports "out of specifications" or something like that, but works with D-SUB, very annoying

lol that sucks... anyway iv been doing some following up....A quick search on google suggests this is a common problem and the method u suggested just might work.

Oh and ardale, try this aswell.....Set the monitor to its Native resolution in windows using the D-DUB then switch off and connect the DVI and boot up...See if that works mate
