I swopped it on the weekend and I must say the size difference is not that noticeable.

I bought a gold plated HDMI cable and from what I read on the forum the picture is supposed to be amazing, but on DVD's like the Matrix you can still see it being "blocky" around the wording. Am I expecting too much from the HDMI cable or is that how it is?
 
That's how it is. Play an HD DVD or similar to see the true capability. The gold plated HDMI definitely makes a difference when playing HD content.
 
Unfortunatly DVD resolution is so low, you are likely to see the "blockeyness". if you connected a PC via HDMI and played some 720p or 1080p content from there...
 
Well I am playing it from a HDD/DVD recorder with 1080p upscaling and to be honest the pitcure looks better on a CRT tv.

I connected my PC up and played Prison Break and it looks allot better I must admit.

But when I read on the forum that going to HDMI the picture is amazing I just expect more. Also the TV picture is very blocky......was better on the CRT tv and Plasma.

The upscaling of the lower res content onto an HD screen is what results in the "blockyness". No way to get away from it. Viewing it on a lower res screen will obviously mean no upscaling, meaning less visual pixelation. The test, as mentioned, is playing real HD content on your HD screen. That's where an awesome picture is noticeable.

Bought myself a 37" sony bravia over the weekend. Resolution from DVD and especially DSTV is pretty crap. XBox, however is just mind blowing.

Why? A HDMI cable should either work or not work - isnt that the nature of a digital signal?

my razer mouse has a gold plated usb thingie :)

reason for this, i have no freakin clue hahaha
 
I just spoke to a specialist at Sony, and he recons the picture should be pretty decent. He said I should scale it down to 720p and then try again.
