Korean researchers have announced the development of a plastic optical fiber cable capable of transmitting 2.5Gbps while remaining flexible and easy to connect. If commercially viable, the new fiber could lead to fast home Internet connections.

Doubt telscum would ever pick it up, but maybe someone like Vodacom would look at it.
 
Couldn't they run plastic fiber along the power lines? It's not going to interfere or kill anyone.
 
Using "2.5Gbps" and "home internet connection" in the same paragraph is treason under SA law btw.
 
Sounds promising, but there is usually quite a bit of time between the R&D invention & lab testing, and the time it takes to manufacture on a large scale, maybe in 2 years time :(.

Poison Ivy uses fibre optic as a ring doughnut delivery system.
