hey guys,
i somehow managed to mess up the networking settings on my computer and now i cant access the net anymore. would appreciate some kind of help if anyone knows about it.i'm using my old computer now.

i managed to mess up the networking when trying to connect to the internet using my phone modem. and apparently, i used the wrong settings and now its hard to get it fixed. tried reinstalling(upgrading) xp, but that failed to work. then downloaded some small tcp fixing software via my phone and tried it too, but its a no go. i guess i'll have to reinstall xp from scratch this evening.

oh,btw, before i did the upgrade xp thing, i had vista too on the computer as a second boot option, but now, after upgrading xp, i can no longer boot into vista. it doesnt even give me a boot option at startup...

Boot problem:
The boot manager thing has been over written, not sure how to fix that other than doing a repair.

Networking problem: have you tried to do a repair?

yea, thanks, i tried some programs for repairing the network, but its not any good.
is there any way i can copy the same settings from this older computer to the new one? both computers are running xp and share the same internet connection via the router. if i can atleast get the networking to work again, i could search for fixes for the vista problem. really would hate to reinstall from the beginning.

Boot up using your Vista disc and choose the repair option, point it to the right partition. She'll do the rest.

yea? never thought of that....will give it a try later. still trying to fix the networking though.

i reset the winsock and still no go.

nevermind guys, i just managed to reinstall completely. so that sorts out the networking problem.

now gonna try the vista disc once more...else i'll reinstall that too...:)

thanks for all the help fellas.
have a great day.
