Of course the 3G iPhone is coming, that's clearly in the evolution plan. As Jobs said himself, it's only a matter of time until improved batteries allow for it. Still, when AT&T's CEO Randall Stephenson says, "You'll have it next year," well, our ears tend to perk up. The remark was made at a meeting of the Churchill Club in Santa Clara. He didn't say how much it could cost admitting that Jobs and Apple "will dictate what the price of the phone is." However, it wouldn't surprise us if fits back into the $599 slot vacated by the 8GB iPhone while toting a full 16GB of flash like the iPod touch.

I can just see a fuming Jobs hold it back until 12:01am 1/1/2009 just to spite the big-mouth at ATT who stole his thunder.
 
Iphone

I would like to buy my Dad a IPHONE for christmas, he is with MTN at the moment. Is there anything I should be aware of before making this purchase. Thanks in advance.

I am glad I got my edge iPhone. I've been enjoying it this whole while, and when the 3G iPhone comes - I'll upgrade my contract and get that!

You can't not buy things fearing the future, otherwise you would never buy anything. There is always going to be something better around the next corner.
 
i personally think that those that can afford a "cash only" iphone wont really have a issue with upgrading to the new version when it arrives....
 
Absolutely no point "waiting for xxx" when talking about technology - unless you mean a couple of days. Otherwise Moore's law indicates that you will be waiting forever.
 
Yeah I cant wait either, I'll be purchasing my iPhone on Wednesday (hopefully) at Apple's US Store and have it shipped here hopefully the following week.

I'll wait till a refurbished 3G iPhone is available at the US store and purchase it then at a good discount.

You're quite right there, it could take another 8 months and Apple can release another "better" iPhone. But I do want 3g, and by next year February the SDK will be released and we'll see more applications. So I dont mind waiting. Already spent R5K on a phone this year...the iPhone is going to be my secondary phone anyway, might aswell wait...:o
 
well im pretty damn impressed with mtn's edge on my iphone... pages open pretty quick. definately faster than gprs.... sure its not 3g but it has not irritated me at all

my iphone still the best phone ive ever owned
