Renualt Megane Purchase...need help

Ok, i currently own a Renault Megane II 1.6 for now 2.5 years...

Reviews: Very nice to drive, good looking, was twice car of the year...
BUT! The resale sucks, really... I went to few shops specifically VW/Audi and they willing to give me almost nothing for the car... The only people willing to trade the car for a new one is again Renault.. Their service is bad here in Cape Town, not sure about joburg and other branches..

Problem: I think this is the time to change this car before its value gets to almost nothing, and i'm not sure buying another Renault is a good move...

Lastly, is buying a car on December a dumb move?

Oh! My settlement seems a little higher than what VW/Audi & renault are willing to take it for (about R25000 more)... Yeah..., maybe 72months can help, oops! i exactly know what u gonna say about longer repayments and residuals.... But please advice
 
It is a bad time to trade-in.The used vehicles market slowed down significantly due to the interest rate increases and the NCA, so the dealers give 15-20% less than book value.This is not just related to Renault. As far as buying in December, wait for Jan otherwise you will be sitting with an "year old" model in less than a month time.

Renault's service in Johannesburg/Pretoria is just as bad, or worse, than Cape Town. The_Librarian posted a pic once, with a guy that got 'gatvol' from Renault's crap service and put stickers on his Megane 'the worst car by far', or something like that.

Buy yourself an Audi or Golf & enjoy driving again! From what I'm reading, it seems you want to go the VW/Audi route. Had my Golf 5 2.0 TDI since May 2005 & want to drive it till there's nothing left of it! I love that car!!! :)

You can still buy the VW/Audi in December, you just get a temp number plate and register the car in January 2008. ;)

A comment came from one of the sales ppl that, if you buy a car now registered 2007, let's say 2009 you want to sell it, the it will be 3 years old but, your mileage will be the best... Well, would buying a second hand car be as bad, cause on January the car will still be the original year model (2006 or something)
 
You are halfway paying off ur car (if u haven't finished already).
I personally wouldn't sell my car, as long as it's not giving me problems.
I would say if u can payoff ur current car, and if u want another car, then u can buy it but keep the old one.

If u buy another car, u will be starting another debt for another 5 years or so. Unless if u don't mind being in debt.
 
Your first mistake was buying a Renault. Sorry dude, from there on you were always gonna be screwed.
 
I love all this brand snobbery that in turn affects resale values. As a brand, Renault's quality is on par with (or arguably better than) VW, but because people have the opinion the VW is great quality, used VWs sell for more.

Look at the little chart on the bottom of this page.

Notice that Renualt is actually just above the industry average WRT customer satisfaction whereas VW is below average.
 
hmm, I'm looking at buying a Megane (1.5 dCi)(second hand 2002 model)
How does the diesel models compare? Petrol consumpsion, problems with car, ect..

I think what negatively affects Renault's perception locally are the following:

1) Lack of spares availability. I know of a few acquaintances that were left carless for weeks on end because parts where not available.

2) Cost of spares and labour charges from dealerships, they are frightening compared to the market segment that their vehicles occupy.

4) Most dealerships have a reputation of being freaking clueless, being unable to repair or service vehicles properly, over-charging customers for replacing parts that were not faulty etc.

It's not a matter of Renaults being bad products, I've owned a few VW's (most problematic of all being a 2006 G5 GTI..) and trust me they are far from faultless. The crux lies in the dealer network and local infrastructure.

Also with the latest economic trends in the car sales market, I would be very wary of buying from a manufacturer with relatively low sales volumes locally. Firstly depreciation will be even worse than the current nitemare due to perceived lack of popularity, and secondly lest they might pull a "SEAT" and pack their bags.
 
I have a Renault Sceneic and I'm really happy with it and the service I get from the Richards Bay people, then again I think they were dealer of the year at some stage.

I had a VW polo and an Opel Astra and their service truly sucked.

Yeah, pity about Renault resale.
 
My GF just bought a demo 2006 Ren Meg II for R74k with less than 30k on the clock. Pretty cool car - 1 yr motorplan left, 2 yrs warrenty... Polo Classics with the same specs were over R110k!!
 
My ex had a Megane. Was a bitch to sell or trade in and had numerous issues. The spare parts were exorbitant and the service useless. Based on personal experience, I would not suggest a Megane, nor a Renault for that matter...

So am i correct to say you also got your car for prime -5% :D If I remember correctly, they gave me 4.9% on my Megane (just before the facelift).

How much are they offering you? As they start(ed) around R149 900 if you bought the Authentic (base model).
 
Don't go for French cars. Personally, i would rather go for German or Japanese. Second hand values keep better, and support is much better.

Sounded a good deal though at the time (2005)... Didn't know the catch :( ... well glad i sold it on December last year! Strange enough i kinda miss it when i see a Megane on the road, must say those 2l Sport are very nice, especially the orange ones!! But yeah .. stay away if you can ... You know i walked into VW to try trade the car, everyone ignored me as if i was invisible :( ... Only AUDI & BMW at least pretended to be nice and welcoming to trade it at 5% more than what VW/TOYOTA were interested in ...

If you haven't driven the car especially on a long distance, you don't know anything about a driving pleasure ... Takes a curve as if you on straight road :)
