IBURST USB with AVM Fritz Box

has anyone tried using an Iburst USB device with a AVM Fritz Box? They include VOIP, not sure if they require DSL though?

I have recently signed import rights for the AVM FritzBox and have been running extensive tests with the Annex A 7170/7140/5124 as these are the only approved Annex A models AVM is providing. My shop config is currently running 3 7170's which allow me full VoIP, Packet Shaping and various other features.

2 of these serve purely as passthrough boxes linking into the box that has my DSL line connected to it. As you can see there is a host of available options on this unique German engineered box. It is therefore highly unlikely that you will not be able to utilize the fritz via iburst. You might need to setup an internal network to allow you to do so, but using the existing any existing internet connection is quite possible.

How about ActuallyAnsweringTheQuestionTheUserPosted instead of advertising your store? Will the FritzBox work with a regular Ethernet connected PPPoE connection? If so, then then answer is yes.

This was not intended to promote my store or my product as the product promotes itself. I am currently moving approximately 100 units per month with the probability of signing up 4 smaller ISP's to bundle the product with their ISP hosting.

Secondly, yes the product does support regular Ethernet connected PPPoE connections, so YES.

I also found the answer a little unclear. I have subsequently contacted the supplier. Some units do support cabled modems, some do not. It depends on the serial number of the unit. As far as I understand an Ethernet PPPoE is in effect a cable modem.

Appologies for the vagueness on my first post, I was purely taking a chance on replying as it was posted in 2006. As for making ADSL and other broadband users aware that this product is available, I have started another thread for that.

The technical expert, probably better able to answer configuration and specialized questions would be Geovani at AVM Germany. For his contact details, please feel free to contact me on any of the supplied numbers. He is the implimentation and training expert there. Most questions I cannot answer at this time is forwarded to him.

As mentioned in the first post however, the only official versions of the FritzBox available in SA is the 5124(non WiFi), 7140 and the first 7170's landed the other day. I am aware that it is possible to un-officially change any other AnnexB version to English and AnnexA. Although these changes are unofficial and will not be supported by AVM, they do work and is 85% stable. What you have to keep in mind however is that some of the functionality is lost during these conversions.

I am not sure whether you can configure the FritzBox to directly connect to the iBurst network but theoretically it would be possible. I am unfortunately unable to test it as iBust is not yet available in Grabouw.

What I can however comment on is that both the 7140 and 7170 is able to connect and has successfully been implimented as a receiver for a wireless Basestation in Grabouw, Villiersdorp up to Wellington, and provide seemless integration and full functionality. Keeping in mind that the Box can be configured to connect to a ADSL line directly, a ISDN line directly or be used as a passthrough for an existing network, the configuration should be fairly simple and un-complicated.

Being a importer and being in contact with Germany daily, my suggestion would be that you forward any specific queries to me. That way both of us can learn exactly what the capabilities, and possible shortcomings, of this box is and it will also allow me to make certain suggestions to AVM.

Although this technology has been in use, extensively, in other countries, it is very new to the SA market. AVM has committed to improving the product, where possible and plausible, to suite our unique requirements.

By your last post, it would seem that you have managed to sort out your problems with the FritzBox, therefore I am looking forward to continuing this conversation in the thread dedicated to discussing your experiences and suggestions of the FritzBox.

does this usb-device have a ethernet plug?
the USB- host wich comes with the fritzbox 7170can´t support this

old boxes like 7050 have a USB-client plug..there you can plug on a computer..( and install a special AVM driver) .. but for windows..not for any kind of other hardware

blieni - thank you for your answer. very helpfull. i am also in germany and need the thing for when im on holiday / working from home in sa. its always hard gearing down from 16mbit dsl to a radio connection. hence i will use a german fritz box.

i agree in saying that this is a great product.

less helpfull i find the underlying questioning about the origins of a product, having simply asked for aktual experiences specifically with iburst modems.

i will post my actual experiences for all to read here in a week.
