Yeah Pandora was cool and I used to use it alot. I have been using Last.fm for a good few months now (maybe even a year) and am loving it. It is both similar and very different to Pandora (feature wise).
I wouldn't have tried anything other than Pandora when It was still open to us as I thought it was brilliant. Now that I was forced to find something else I stumbled upon 'Last.fm'. After using Last.fm for a long period of time I have come to the conclusion that it is way better than Pandora. Pandora had some cool features but I think Last.fm has so much more to offer.
Its about 50 megs an hour. It will never be exact but that is a fairly accurate average.
It will use a variant of mpeg 4 audio (more efficient) and I'm sure it will also use variable bitrate to save on precious bandwidth) so it will vary depending on what you listen to (i.e. if there are lots of quiet bits in the song it uses less bandwidth).
Another thing to consider is how often you skip songs. There is an option to skip to another song if you don't like the track that is currently playing. When you do this the player does a prebuffer of the first part of the song. It is generally the first couple of seconds of the song that are downloaded before the song starts playing. To stop the feeling of delay before the song starts playing those first couple of seconds are generally downloaded at a much higher speed. Once the prebuffer is done, the rest of the song downloads at a slower and constant rate (just enough speed to keep the song playing). My point here is that if you skip a lot of songs, rather than letting them play through, you will use quite a lot more bandwidth. This however doesn't bother me but it may be of use to those who try to use as little bandwidth as possible.
But in my experience 50 megs is a good figure to work on.
