Dont Buy Toshiba Laptops

I bought a Toshiba L40 Laptop 2 weekends ago with the intention of using it on the internet for home and business work.
The laptop seemed fine and I haven’t had problems with it until I tried to use my PCIMCA Vodafone 3G Card.
The computer comes with an express port and not a port that supports any South Africa 3G card from any of the networks.
I tried to speak to Toshiba (Mustek) to find out what I must do and they said that it was tough and they wouldn’t help.
When I said they should make people aware of this they told me that the people using 3G cards would buy their Business Range of Laptops that support it and not this laptop.
I don’t see how that is of any relavence? They are currently selling a computer in South Africa that is not compatible with the services.
They said it is the way in the future but at the moment isn’t supported in South Africa?
I have wasted all this money on this machine and they have told me too bad.
Please warn anyone thinking of buying their laptops to think twice as both their service and product is poor.
I cannot understand how they can bring a product into the country that does not meet the hardware requirements of the users in South Africa. The fact that the European cellphone companies support it is irrelavent.

Sorry for you, but ranting at Toshiba or Mustek isn't the right option, you didn't explicity tell them that you NEEDED the laptop to have a PCMCIA card, the fault is on your side for not checking the laptop would support everything you needed it to.

Toshiba is a VERY good brand of laptop.
 
You should have checked before you have bought the Laptop to see if the Laptop and the 3G card is compatible with one another. Nothing wrong with Toshiba though. Mustek is another story.

Sell the PCMCIA card and get a USB card.
 
Ditto. Toshiba rock.

Its like buying a game and finding out it doesnt work with your hardware. you need to check before you buy.
 
I did ask the Sales Person and was told it would work.
I have spent the last month looking at various laptops at Incredible Connection etc and this is the first one that I have found that has this.
Not one HP, Fujitsu, Acer or Dell has this slot.
How many computer users know the difference between a PCIMCA and an express slot.
It was careless but the average user wouldnt have the first clue of the difference.
They should make people aware!

Theres your problem right there not Toshiba, never had a problem with a Toshiba laptop. If you buy a unleaded car do you moan when you can't put diesel in ???
 
Did you tell them EXACTLY what brand of 3g modem you had, did you test to see that it fitted in to the laptop?

As for not finding laptops that don't have PCMCIA, well I haven't bought a laptop in the last year that had pcmcia, most dell laptops now do NOT have this slot.
 
A standard Vodacom or MTN contract that 90% of the users are on come with the 3G card. Thats fine for future use once I'm out of the contract but means more money to buy other stuff or change to the USB card.
Could of bought a better HP then with that money and not had to hassle with Toshiba and Mustek
 
As stated before I said that the mistake was on my side and if read carefully the message had a problem with the attitude of Toshiba and Mustek and the way that they went about trying to help me.
Typically arrogant way of some big IT companies when you have a problem and are looking for their help. Especially when they know you arent at their level of knowledge.
I dont see a need to support companies that have that attitude to after sales help.
Never once did I say anything was wrong with the computer!!
 
I just love customers like you! You don't do your reseach before making a purchase then it is everybody's fault but your own. :sick: If you KNEW you had a 3G card then why not make sure it was compatible before purchasing the notebook? Why is it when people buy stuff it is always somebody else's responsibility to make sure it works?

For the record I have dealership with Mustek, Rectron and other copmanies in the same group. I have always found their technical support staff to be competant and exceedingly helpful as are their sales staff. I have never had any issues with Toshiba warranties and until this year they were all I sold in the notebook range. I have now added Asus to the list as I like what I see in their product range.

Your implication is that there is something wrong with the laptop with the thread title of "Don't buy toshiba laptops"

Plus, their attitude, while not necessarily great, is entirely expected since what you are asking is pretty much impossible to fix unless they take the laptop back and replace it with something else. Which is not going to happen since the fault was on your side not theirs.
 
I agree with ^^^^, you should have done your homework before purchasing, especially such an expensive item

for a first time on this site you really seem like a nice bunch! You probably all work for Mustek
