Don't you have friends in CT anymore? If you just want it in say mp3 320kbps format i'm sure somebody on this forum can help you out. What kind of ripping did you have in mind? If it was here in Jhb i would've helped you, but hopefully someone from CT can come through for you on this.
Edit: I don't see it as illegal to rip your own cd's to listen to yourself. I try to never have originals in the car, i must still find someone who has been convicted for something like this

johnmonty , callup one of your mates in CT. To collect and rip your Music CD's to mp3 format and then let them upload it for you to a FTP or something.
If it is your own discs, i don't see that as illegal, unless the person ripping it is intending to share it to alot of people. *meaning sharing it to the public*

TBH though...I don't know of such a service. Kind of stupid to deliver such a service I would say. It would be Cheaper to DHL it to the USA or even more cheaper to just buy the MP3's on the internet somewhere.

I've heard of some small business offering to put all your music onto an iPod. Can't remember where I saw it. It was a bit like Dial-a-Nerd.

That uploading part might be a big problem. They'd have to at the least use a local only account and find a local FTP they can use, and even then a few GB's will take a while and cost a bit too.

I'm in the 'business' of optical storage media, and involved with anti-piracy initiatives. It is NOT illegal to rip your own CD's as long as you don't sell or distribute the resultant files to others. Just as you are entitled to make a backup (for own use) of proprietary IP, e.g. software purchased legally, the same applies to entertainment content.
It may not be quicker if he has to do a lot of clicking and submitting, even
if he has a fast broadband connection.
He'll have to rebuy his music at $15-20 per CD.
His entire catalog, especially if he has indie label stuff or
local stuff will not be available at ITMS.
The songs he'll buy at the end will be DRM'ed and of
lower quality - if he wants to use them for the iPod
that's OK, if he wants to listen through them through
a better mp3 player/earplugs or whole HiFi system
he'll have quality issues - depending also on his ears.
It's not illegal to format shift. He bought the licences to
use those songs indefinitely and unless he sells his
CDs after ripping them, he won't be breaking any copyright
or piracy laws. If it was illegal to RIP CDs Windows
Media Player and iTunes would not have that function.
South African law doesn't make specific allowance for backing up music CDs or movie DVDs. It does make allowance for backing up software. So technically it is illegal. There may be legal cases that say otherwise or format shifting/backups may just be overlooked.
