My DSTV signal is sh!tty ATM.

Since it rained 2 weeks ago and then the stronge southeaster winds started, my DSTV channels has breakup pictures all the time, unbearable to watch anything, My son gave up watching CN due to this problem.

Do anyone else have the same problem in CT. What do I do. Do I get DSTV techies out onsite, My signal is always between 50% & 69% which is the norm before this issue started. How could this have happened?

It appears that the wind has blown the dish out of alignment - you need to have it re-aligned. Might also be a faulty connection but i doubt that.

I've also had such an issue before - need to get someone to come and check and align the dish again. I assume there are no branches or trees in the dishes LOS.

Water could also have got into the connection at the aerial and corroded it? At the LNB there is a join and it has happened to me that I had to redo the wiring as the metal in the join at the LNB simply perished.

My neighbour on the other hand replaced his whole aerial unit and LNB only to realise that a Giant Strelitzia Plant (Strelitzia Nicolai - Wild Banana) with big leaves was the culprit which had grown up above the level of the gutters and was masking the signal.
Obvious reason in retrospect, but hard to establish the cause when you have tested everthing and all evidence points to a bad LNB.

The first thing I would do is to check your decoder and the best was of doing that is to plug in another working decoder into your system to see if get the same issues. Also try resetting your decoder so that it is getting a signal from the correct satellite.

If you call someone in without checking the basics first it may cost you a few hundred Rand unnecessarily for the call out and 9 out of 10 times the chap will want to replace the LNB, whether it needs replacing or not.

These are my experiences, not saying this is your problem, but first check the decoder before you check the aerial.

50-69% is borderline. Also DSTV have been mucking around on some channels with signal disappearing for no apparent reason. Blame them.
