:mad:Virgin, you are the worst I've ever seen in my life. You suck big time. I hope with all my heart that you go bankrupt soon, and may you rest in NO PEACE AT ALL!!!!!!!!! I'm so sick of this dead connection so very often, so sick of this worse speed, so sick of disconnects, and so sick of your brain dead staff, who cant help me ever. From now on I will make it my duty to tell everyone about how very very bad you are. It's nice to just take my money, and prey on us who can't afford better. I hope you all die!!!!

Depends heavily on location. Most people here in Pretoria seem to get 8-9kB/s while the smaller towns often get <1kB/s and lots of disconnects.
And yes, one gets what one pays for. You could go for ADSL and pay R200/pm, or you could go for Vodacom and pay R289/pm. Both offer good connection...at a price.

Just port to vodacom and for R189 you get 3G/HSDPA speeds and 500megs. Trust me ive been where you are now with virgin, i spent anything between R700 - R1000 per month with them and had endless crap with there service and lies. Now i spend half that amount, the service is great the speeds are awesome and i dont have to worry that im being ripped off anymore. Trust me paying that little bit extra is worth every cent. :p

We'll I've stopped using virgin today but Vodacom is giving me the same connection issues on my side.
My advise would be if you're not willing to buy a data bundle each month from Vodacom then Virgin does offer the best deal for under R100

I think the reason for this is cause virgin mobile aint free no more. So the traffic on the box is much less.

I've been using my Virgin sim in a Nokia 6230 and the connection seems to be much better than what it was in my SE w550i, I downloaded about 100MB yesterday easily.
They have given me endless problems with billing as well. Totally useless and incompetent.

I stay on a farm near Port Alfred (EC), and the coverage is nothing less than crap. 3G...had my new phone 2 days already and not once have I experienced 3G. And in the evenings I get connection (EDGE) for about a minute, then it disappears for two. But I'm not moaning, at least you can still get internet if you don't have airtime, even if they cut you out a lot:-)

Port Alfred is still a bit of a dorp, so you can't expect them to have major infrastructure. OK, so there are some rich dudes there with holiday homes, but it's quite seasonal. [Have they tarred the roads yet?]
What do you mean about the "internet if you don't have airtime"?

Why dont they just give us their cruddy gprs service for free?
They are sinking faster then Titanic, i cant wait to see what they will do.
No surprise their network isnt making money.
Every time i read the Virgin thread 80% is negative.

You think they will answer your email, or even do something other than telling you it's just too much traffic? If the big boss don't even do something or respond to my email, why in hell will the support centre do it?

I must correct you there, I think it's more than just 80% negative. How about 200%? I can't understand why people like them don't do something. I mean in SA there's a huge marked for better internet, faster, more reliable and stable, and with better overall service. Why can't they jump in and do something, and get more customers, and so on? Why just sit and look how the other networks take all the cream? I just wish we could get someone on this forum, from Virgin, who can do something, and who doesn't just give empty promises. But if the big boss don't even care, why would the rest?

Personaly i think the only reason the virgin group put up virgin mobile in S.A.
and create 400 and odd little jobs was cause they wanted virgin money to be
approved for business in our country. Cause lets face it thats where the BIG MONEY
is at. Now that they got what they wanted, they couldnt care less about the mobile side of things. Just think about it, why hasn't virgin mobile made any attempt to
secure any permanent telecommunications infrastructure? They been here like 2years already and still havent even sorted a stable reliable network.
