I am definately in the market to purchase one of these, but still can't decide which one. The Cowon Q5 is available from B&H PhotoVideo right now for $599 plus $65 insured 5 day EMS - for the 60GB version. Take $50 off for the 30GB one.
COWON Q5W:
COWON A3 - Priced at $399 MSRP.
Both devices have excellent 16.7 million high res displays.
Both devices can act as USB 2.0 hosts ie you can connect your
digital camera and copy JPEG, BMP and RAW! files onto the HD and
view them there with a 4x zoom and a pan control.
Both devices play FLAC (lossless audio)
The A3 plays H264 video and also Apple AAC.
The Q5 is bigger with a bigger screen, same res and is a bit heavier.
It can't hardware decode HD video or AVC (as yet).
It needs a stylus.
It has Bluetooth connectivity (bt earphones)
It has full Wifi and Internet Explorer with Flash (eg YouTube).
The A3 is more compact, same res, 16.7 million colour
screen.
Can view bigger RAW files and JPEGs.
Can play Apple audio.
Can do hardware AVC/H264.
Can play and output 720p video.
No BT.
No Wifi.
Joystick/button control.
LARGEST codec playlist available plays DivX 3.11, 4,5,6, VOB, Xvid, MPEG1/2, MJPEG, MPEG4, WMV, H264 MOV in MKV, AVI etc containers!
Self uprade of the Q5 HD is possible to 100GB. A3 is not widely available yet.
Anyway ... both look very good.
For photographers both are good too except the A3 can handle unlimited size RAW files and bigger JPEGs.
