Trouble With DSL Modem

I've recently been experiencing problems with my DSL modem (the one you recieved from Telkom for free when you choose the self-install option). It had worked fine, but recently it's been acting up. When I had to unplug it or even turn it off due to thunderstorms in my region and I turn it on again, it struggles to connect to the Internet. After turning it off and turn it on, sometimes a few times, it would return to normal afterwards until I turn it off again.

But now the problem has gotten worse in the past few days. The lights showing the ethernet connection ports now flash on and off continuously or don't even show at all even if the cables are plugged in. Even when the lights show the internet light sometimes stays off even if the DSL light is on (and sometimes it doesn't show either). And sometimes the power light stays red and the wireless stays on.

Any suggestions or help, please?

Continuous flashing is usually during a self-check, or during data transmission. Have you tried upgrading it's firmware? (I take no responsibility if you break your router doing this, though :D)

It might have been damaged by lightning. I was using my router off an Ethernet cable and there was a small flash of lightning overhead and the next thing the Ethernet ports started flashing and the router stopped working. It really doesn't take much lightning activity to destroy a router.
