Hi all,

This my first post in myadsl, I hope it is in the correct forum.
I'm doing some self study on using SBS 2003 with MS Exchange. I have it (obviously) installed on a server which is connected to a MEGA100WR router/adsl modem using an Ethernet LAN cable. Other PC setups are:
1 Desktop connected to the modem using Ethernet cable, 2 Notebooks connected by wireless and 2 Desktops connected by wireless. There is no problem with the setup in that all PC's have internet connectivety, can do file sharing and printer sharing on the server.

My problem is getting the email setup on the SBS2003 right, using MS exchange to get the email tranferred to a desktop, the one connected via cable. I have setup as per the textbooks and online tutorials, but do not come right. I have succeeded however to get the desktop to receive emails only. I have also followed the artical at http://http://www.msexchange.org/tutorials/Configuring-Incoming-Outgoing-Email-Windows-Small-Business-Server-2003.html

I started the Connect To Internet wizard on the Server Management console and have proceeded as follows:
Connection Type: Broadband
Broadband Connection: A local router with an IP address (I have used this because I have a local router and looking at the network diagram, it is the correct choice.)
Router Connection: Preferred DNS and Aternate DNS is entered (checked twice with MWeb) and Local IP address of router is 10.0.0.2, as this is what is used to set up the modem when it was installed. The single network connection for both internet connection and LAN is ticked, as I use the adsl modem/router to connect all the PC's together and to which the server is connected as well.
Web Services Configuration: I do not want access to the Web site from the Internet (for now anyway) and have thus selected the first option.
Internet e-mail: Enable Internet e-mail is selected
E-Mail Delivery Method: Forward all e-mail to e-mail server at your ISP is selected with smtp.mweb.co.za as the E-mail server. I have checked with Mweb that they do allow e-mail forwarding. I have also tried smtp.saix.net
E-Mail Retreival method: Use Microsoft Connector for POP3 Mailboxes is selected. Use Exchange is selected with E-mail is delivered directly to my server is chosen.
E-mail Domain Name: Left blank, as I do not have a domain name
POP3 Mailbox accounts: The Exchange user, mailbox type and Mail server (pop.mweb.co.za) is correct as I can receive emails.
Mail Schedule: Set for every 15 min.
Remove e-mail attachments: I've left all of this as per default with all of the types of extensions enabled.

I have checked that there is no queuing also.
Is there anyone that can help?

What email client do you use on the desktop?

In the SMTP field (desktop), make sure you use either your email server's IP adress or its network name. You can set it to SMTP out to Mweb directly, but I'll assume you'll want to spool both incoming and outgoing mails on the server first.

The guilty party is MWeb. They do not allow "relay access" through smtp.mweb.co.za. To test this simply use this server in Outlook Express with outgoing username and password credentials.

1) Open Exchange System Manager
2) Right click Connectors -> Smallbusiness SMTP Connector to get properties.
3) Make sure the server smtp.mweb.co.za is entered as smart host
4) Go to the Advanced tab and click Outbound Security
5) Select Basic Authentication
6) Use your Mweb account e-mail address and password

If this does not work try using a different SMTP server and account, like TelkomInternet or WebAfrica.
