:(FIrstly i just dont understand this, opera is a free internet browser and so is firefox and max...and others..

But i installed opera mobile for my smart phone and it sucks that i have to pay for this after 30 days.NOw can this be justified,I dont see why cause to me its all the same.

WEll can some one please explain this to me,and another question what is the best free mobile browser out there, please dont tell me operamini as it is a java applet...I use it but it not really great.

Well i'm writing this from opera mini, but opera mobile is much better. I've got a 6310 or something though, so I doubt opera mobile would work on my phone. But ya, opera mobile isn't free, excepting when it comes preinstalled on some phones.

is it possible that the PC version is free but the mobile version is not?

Some phones as mentioned come bundled with software - whether it is a trial version or full version depends on the arrangement between companies.
What you must realize is that even though Opera is free (for PC) you are using it on a mobile platform, and that "porting" process is what puts a cost to the software

with opera on your mobile, all your data goes via their servers, which mangles the web pages to make them mobile-friendly.
this costs them money, hence the reason it costs you money

both work the same (proxying through opera servers)...but one does pictures and stuff, and the other one does pictures and stuff :-)

or maybe they just charge money because they can? it's the last day of the year and i couldnt really care hehehehe

actually, i take back what i said.
mini - they proxy everything, and dont make you pay (probably coz they can sell statistics or something)
mobile - you pay, looks like it isnt proxied, so they cant monitor you, so they want their dosh somehow..

Opera Mobile is not a free browser, however it comes bundled with the majority of Nokia symbian smartphones. As a result when you buy the phone you buy a license for the browser. To everyone else it sadly is not free.

The reason that Opera charge for the Mobile version is that there is still a market for browsers on the mobile platform. This applies across the board. For example, Sun has an open source license for Java but not for the mobile platform. They charge companies to put Java on mobiles. There is a substantial amount of development that goes into the mobile version of Opera. The desktop version also has a lot but that development was sponsored by Google and is now sponsored by Yahoo if I remember correctly.

I am using Opera mini and its free. I just pay for what I download and it doesnt cost me much anyways!!!!

If you just browsing and post Opera mini works like a charm. I don't use any other browser on my phones. If you want to downlaod something mini just launches the std phone browser for the D/L.
