Hi there,

First post. Woo!

Always read stuff on these forums, never thought about joining until now.

I got a macbook pro, and want to get photoshop cs3 for mac. It will be for professional use.

I see ec mac has it for about R6 or R7 grand. Anyone know if there's a cheaper route to getting Photoshop CS3?

Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

Mike

Welcome to our little cult, I suppose EC Mac is the cheapest or look on the Adobe website.

This is exactly why I dont buy it, I'm sorry but that is just too much, if Adobe wants R1000 for it I'll gladly pay them back for every version I may have pirated :innocent puppy dog eyes:, but 6 grand? c'mon!
I mean some games take ages to make an can pull off some awesome visuals in real time, but cost R300-R600. if Photoshop was roundabout that price or even a little over R1K they'd sell more copies, which would justify the price drop.

u don't have to buy it, but certainly don't pirate it. nobody's forcing you to own it. if you want it, you need to buy it.

The problem with that price is that the torrents start to look very tempting with potential savings of R6000. Same with AutoCAD.

The music industry already learned that lesson. If the price difference between legal/illegal is too big, then people will pirate.

I watched an episode of Diggnation the other day..an oldish one..cant find a link..anyway
THey said something I completely agree with: people will not pirate something if the price is right, thats why certain slightly legal, slightly illegal russian websites make so much money.

I pay for my music (unless it isn't locally available), I pay for my games, and I'm buying the Heroes DVDs when the writers strike is over, but Adobe can go fsck themselves...really.
.!..

There are plenty of graphics apps out there so if you're not willing to pay for it you have options available.

Regrettably none of them compare but that really isnt Adobe's fault is it?

thanks for the replies.

i've tried other apps, but i like photoshop. i use a wacom tablet and the compatibility and the way it works is awesome. will have a look at elements. all i need really is to be able to use a standard brush, and the blending modes, and the 'export to web' option, as well as layers.

US $545 and ships worldwide. I'm sure there are other auctions. Probably charges less for shipping if you ask to loose the box :) and ship reg mail in a padded envelope. :)
Probably $25 tops.

try also
www.toolfarm.com
(ship to SA)

cdromshop.com is actually more expensive than SA, with the full version costing 976 USD.

OMW!!!

$437 US from Australia...

I have bought from the adobe store online before and shipped from Ireland so was not that expensive, don't know if it's the cheapest place to get CS3 though.

All I can say is thank goodness for upgrades - they make the product very reasonably priced ;)

Agreed - it's alot of money and I also wouldn't pay it. But you can't really compare it to games. Photoshop (and Autocad mentioned lower down the thread) is a powerful tool, mostly used by professionals to generate income (alot of income mostly :) ).

If you can do the same with a free version graphics app (or cheaper one), then great.

You know despite that, Adobe are a bunch of a-holes. I wanted to cross-grade ie cross platform upgrade my Adobe Premiere Pro to Adobe Production Suite 3 (Adobe Premiere, After Effects, Photoshop and other apps)
and it would have worked out to about $800 - alas the idiots denied me because my Adobe apps are OEM versions bought with the Matrox RTX Extreme Pro.
They still got their cash from Matrox and relied on Matrox to do the support, now the idiots say "No." We to hell with them, now they lost out on an upgrade sale
and they could have had that, they'll get nothing.

I guess I'll stay loyal to Final Cut Studio 2, its better but it would have been fun to have some AE or Photoshop locally, now have to do it on the PC
and network copy across.
