P.S - If you go to installer, you will see there is a new program - Extended Preferences which lets you have some fun with the phone such as set fake carrier, change carrier image etc.
Also i ue a program called Categories which is useful to free desktop space on the iPhone. For example i put all games into one folder called "Games". Download it and youll see what im talkin about.

I got my phone for Xmas and the supplier didn't tell my husband that I shouldn't upgrade the phone when iTunes asks for the upgrade. So, I went ahead and installed the upgrade. My SIM was locked and it took me 7 days, lots of trial and error and whatever else to get it downgraded back to the original version and then I unlocked the SIM. It's possible to do it. The nice part about this exercise is that I learned about AppSnapp of course and there was no way I was going to learn about it any other way.
I cannot get Swirly MMS to work on Vodacom (posted elsewhere for your comment) and I find it sad that there is no Voice activiation for use with Bluetooth in my car. Other than that I have the batch SMS done, still cannot get ringtones converted, though.
I was under the impression that the phone is available freely. There is a shop in Sandton City that sells it for about R2k more than the guys at Shop 'n Ship. Not sure if we are allowed to promote vendors, if not just please delete.
Thanks for this thread, it's helping a lot.
I will help you with ringtones tommorrow as it's a little tricky, however , regarding SSH:
Very basically:
If an iPhone is SSH enabled, Using a program such as WinSCP or Putty for windows, you can log into your iPhone and view its hard disk's contents - transfer files, photos, get photos off the phone etc all by using your wireless connection in your home.
This is cool because:
a) No wires are necessary
b) The iPhone does not support disk mode without installing a 3rd party app
If you dont have wireless in your home its pretty much useless to you.

Thanks... I needed the BSD Subsystem first, 6.6MB download which takes time.
The ringtones... I have tried that renaming the file from within iTunes and then it's supposed to show up in your Ringtone Library. It doesn't work for me either on Mac or PC. I'd really appreciate that info, but in your own time.

The shop I work for, Cats Digital in Sandton finally took the hint and now sells iPhones ... they are more expensive than the net at R9000 ... but they come with some gold chip which sits under the sim card and apparently fully unlocks the phone ... not 100% sure though ...
Will be a CA by year end... Anyone with any business opportunities

its called a TurboSIM looks kinda like this http://img.hw.cz/s/SimToolkitovy-ada...o_sim1_300.jpg
Its used for iPhones that come with 1.1.2 OTB (iPhones that when you buy them, come wth 1.1.2) as that was the only way to unlock them.
Its not very convinent a you have to make a hole in your SIM for it to fit in the "chip" and go into your SIM compartment.
Therefore any SIM you would want to use in the phone, you would have to make a hole in it first.
However, a few days ago they figured out how to hardware unlock the 1.1.2 OTB. The word is that a software unlock will be released soon.
1.1.3 has also been jailbroken apparently , but will not be released until Feb.
