A 20-year-old truck driver alleged he was raped by three woman after he accepted a lift home from them, Mpumalanga police said on Monday.
Constable Mzwandile Nyambi said the truck driver was hitchhiking home last Monday after work.
Three woman and two men in a white Toyota Venture offered to give him a lift, saying they were going in the same direction.
They stopped at a mall to buy food. When they got back on to the road they pulled off again into some bushes just before the Mantsulu highway. When they were in the secluded spot they told the man to undress.
"It is alleged that when he refused they fired a warning shot that grazed his leg and said they would kill him. It is after this that the alleged rapes took place," Nyambi said.
The man, who is receiving counselling from a woman's crisis centre, told Sapa he was afraid to go to sleep following the incident.
"The women were so cruel. The first woman grabbed me, opened my pants and just raped me. Then the other two women took turns and raped me whilst the two men with guns watched and laughed. I was so helpless, and scared for my life," he said.
Police are investigating a case of attempted murder and rape.
"We are continuing with our investigations and hope to catch these people soon," said Nyambi. - Sapa
