4 Hour Power Cuts

Hooray......My house in Dunkeld had been load shedded for at least 4 hours yesterday morning from 7, my work in Wanderers office park has no power for the whole day.........

its pathetic, Eskom claims that there will be no load shedding over Easter weekend.

Fair enough. But if the power's going to be off for that long there is an even greater need to produce an outage schedule and stick to it - are they ever going to get around to doing that?

Note the times - basically, a 4 hour failure = discard most food in the fridge.

Eskom - world leader's in health care , say
Keep refrigerator and freezer doors closed, as a power outage of four hours should not cause food spoilage, and a freezer should keep frozen food safe for at least a day. It is a good idea to have alternative available snacks that do not need refrigeration.

I work from home. no power, no work. no work, no income
Great!!!

Likewise for some of my income. It sucks big time.

It affects a wider spectrum of people. My sister is final year at varsity. Her place got loadshedded in the morning a day before a deadline for a very important project. She came over to my place to work here and about an hour and a half later my place got loadshedded. It ****s with people's futures.

Wife works for a big corporate in the JHB CBD - they closed at 2pm yesterday when the power went off.
No problem - SA is so wealthy that a few hours downtime for a 15 story building is nothing.

This is getting worse. At my apartment in illovo we were out from 6 am until about eight in the evening. This is unacceptable. The power situation was better when i was based in the DRC.

They don't load shed where I stay anymore. The thing is that I don't mind doing without power for two hours if it will reduce the times that other people have to sit without power...

Soon jhb will be having two 4hr power cuts

exactly.
The "smoothing effect in action".
As soon as we are used to a 4hour outage, we will move to having them more often.
One day it will be "4 hours of power", as opposed to "4 hours without".

Yeah same. I work form home as well. Luckily we don't get loadsheded more than 2 hours a week. Knowing Eskom it will no doubt get worse. 4 hours is ridiculous and shows how severe the problem is

How can it just keep on getting worse? I thought companies decreased their usage by 10% ???

And last week, every time I saw that stupid dial on TV, it was always in the green during peak times?

Conflicting reports of either 4 or 16 generators offline yesterday.

It can get much worse - and quick.
Failing generators is just one.
Sub stations "aging" quickly because of excessive on/off cycles is another.
Smelter coming on line and continued growth, another.

and so on.

Oh yes, it can get worse - and it will.
