    Default Mazda 2

So I'm buying my wife a Mazda 2 to replace her current Tazz(1999 model), although I'm not entirely impressed by the service from some of the sales people thus far, she has her heart set on this car now.

The problem is that the prices go up tomorrow, Mazda can't tell me by how much yet though but they have given the option to purchase at the original price. The difference in the price apparently comes from the extending of the warranty on the car, its going from 3 years/100000km to 4 years/120000km. I'm not to worried about the warranty at this stage. My concern lies with the service/maintenance plan.

The car comes standard with a service plan and we have the option to upgrade to a full maintenance plan for R 6,000. I'm struggling to find details of what the difference is between these two plans and what is included on the service plan relating to consumables etc. I personally can't justify paying an additional R6k if the only difference is break pads for example.

Has anyone dealt with Mazda before or have any knowledge of these two plans they offer?

Would anyone suggest paying the additional R6000 for the maintenance plan instead of the normal service plan? Its basically 4% of the cars value

How much does a service cost, and how much mileage will she do per year?

Well the service plan is a given and I've found out that it covers the normal consumables. The maintenance plan is an additional R6000 and then it includes other parts like the cam belt, shocks, brakes, clutch etc. My wife does about 20km/year

Well look at it this way

All the manufacturers automatically extended their service intervals as soon as they started offering maintenance plans.
So in the 4 years of the upgrade you'd be looking at 6-odd services (takes you to around 80k)
Cambelt service (which is the big one) is only at 90k so you won't really score the benefit of the saving on that service within the 4 year time limit

Now I've always found the dealers to be way overpriced when it comes to those little consumables. My advice would be to skip the extra 6 grand and have brakes / shocks etc done at one of the aftermarket suppliers, if and when you need to
Feel free to disagree with me if you think I'll give a $h!t

That would be my thought too. Extended warranties are a big money-spinner for dealers.
