My problem at the moment is quite simple.

Because telkom "upgraded" the link between the local switchbox and the local exchange to fibre optics, it cannot of course support ADSL which requires frequency modulation.

Telkoms response to this problem is simply that nothing can be done because they cannot now revert to copper. I told therefore that I must just continue to pay for ISDN, which is costing a fortune relatively speaking, whilst all of my mates in the immediate surrounding areas who are "lucky" enough to still be connected to the exchange via copper have now got ADSL at a fixed rate.

How absolutely ridiculous is that ?! I ask you.

So in essence, what they are now saying, is that all those faithfull customers who footed the bill for ISDN connections when that was all that they could offer and who were put onto fibre to improve those same ISDN connections, must now lose out and accept that they are not entitled to ADSL and must just keep on happily paying easily double what the ADSL boys are paying for a service that is 1/3 as fast at best and that can only realistically be used during callmore time.

Lovely.

Whats more important to you ?

- fixed guaranteed speed and variable cost
- fixed cost and CRAP speed + limits. ???
